Default Drag Launch Question

So I followed a bunch of my Mustang/Camaro/Muscle Car buddies to the 1/8 mile strip on the six last night and decided I'd take it down a couple of times. For those of you that take your R6 to the strip, what rpm do y'all launch at? Do you hold it at a steady rpm and let the clutch out, or do you start at a lower rpm and increase throttle as you let out the clutch when launching? Once I get my 60 foot times down, I'll run a decent time.

There's a wealth of info on this subject, but I'm not going to put a convenient link up for you, use the search feature.

well you can read up on launching manual cars same idea...

umm usually people hold at a steady rpm, fairly high though and work the clutch, thus wearing out the clutch ALOT if you do alot of race/hard launches

clutch so the engine doesnt bog or wheelie, because the 6's needs to stay high in the rpms for power and so the clutch is slipped alot to keep the RPMs up...

for the actual launch you should let the clutch out enough BEFORE the light so your physically hold the bike from creeping forward... hold it at the friction point, lean forward to help prevent wheelies.... but the front coming up a little isnt bad...

and im not sure with bikes but with cars some wheel slippage is good for maximum forward velocity once the tires grab... the tire slippage is sort of the same idea as slipping the clutch so the tire is going fast and so once it grabs you shoot forward instead of bogging and having to get it up to speed..

not sure if u want ur tire spinning on a bike though... alot of people tie down there suspension so it moves less ummmm thats all for mee hope it helped

10k - 11k RPM's here.
did that with my 99 R6 and now with my 2k5 R6.
Ride the clutch out in the first 60ft and then dump it. And practice no clutch shifting ( all through the throttle) after 2nd gear. It'll speed up your time. You should be getting 1.7-1.8 60 ft times if you are doing it right.

Tire pressure, a must (dont be drag racing at stock pressure) Back tire should be 20 psi or below. I race at 14-18 psi's depending on the weather, and if the track has been treated.

If you have tie down straps, use them. helps you with your launches and keeps the front end down. (you will need to install a specail bracket by your brake calipers however since they are inverted forks - to attach your straps to)

11.2 seconds on my 4th time down the track. Still working on getting it to 10.8's at least. (edit : thats for a 1/4 mile track).

I hold my clutch at closest point before the engine grabs ( the friction area). depending on the tree type you're using, I launch just about the third light that lights up. You can cut your reaction time to .500 - .600 if you do.
