Default keeping weight off the bars and braking...

I can't seem to do it. I find myself tensing up for some reason. Its getting better but I still find myself putting unwatned weight onto the clipons. I read that I should (in theory) be able to take off a hand in the turn.

I think a lot has to do with me still learning and the fact that I haven't dropped the bike yet. Strips are getting smaller by the day (I know, small strips doesn't always mean a faster rider).

Any suggestions for keeping weight off the clipons or not being so tensed up. I notice it more if I have to brake hard for a turn.

I'm guessing in should be using the front brake slowing myself for a turn, not the back as well. Am I correct in this

What's been helping me a lot of late, (thx Need and Boos) is sliding back a bit on the seat. I used to think jamming my nuts on the tank and squeezing with my inner thighs would help but it's somewhere in the middle. Being back on the seat and using the middle of my thighs to hold my weight has really helped me keep off the clipons.

My advice is dig in......on the pegs, the thighs gripping the tank, the abs....everything needs to hold you in place not just 1.

Anytime albino.

Look at my aviatar or Boostedxt's signature picture above this post

Its all about body positioning.

Drop your arms, so they're parallel to the ground. Keep them low and you won't put weight on the bars.
Use your abs and back to hold you up while you grip the tank with your thighs.

Someone had said they kept loose by wiggling their fingers, can't do it if you're tight on the bars. Between that and holding on with your knees (expect a SORE lower back if you practice this for awhile...) you should be fine.

I use the front brake almost entirely. I find that if I try to use the rear brake in most situations I end up locking up the rear tire and it's just another thing to think about. As said use your back and stomach muscles to hold your upper body. At first you may get tired until those muscles strengthen. Keeping your arms parallel to the road will also maximize your steering input on the bars as you are at the best angle for control. Stay light on the bars.

ill put it to you this way. i stopped putting weight on the bars when i started coming out of corners and the front end was REALLY light, so i accidentally started moving the handlebars side to side which scared the shit out of me because it was too close to causing tank slappers when i set the front end down...

now i use my thighs to shift my body weight <-- no more almost tank slappers

Sweet...I am glad I could help Nick.

The mental thought for myself is that I could ride the bike in almost full tuck, upright, leaned, or anything with my hands off the bars and my body position tostay the same.

Sit on the bike, lean forward like in a tuck, and take your hands off the bars without changing your body position. You will see instanty what muscles need to do what in oder to keep you there. Now then riding...X by 10, and look through the turn.

Think of it this way..."humans accomplish what they set their minds too whetherits what they want or not." Dont enter the turn thinking weight off the bars, or else the weight will be on the bars.
