Question Shifting w/o Clutch

Hey All, this is my first post on this forum.
I just bought my 05 Raven r6 a couple days ago,
with a bunch of mods already on it, and i love it.

I have a question about shifting...
It seems that for the most part i don't even need to use the clutch
for shifting- My buddy just also got his 05 r6 red, and he said the
people at the dealership told him about this- and that it
was designed to do this. "constant mesh transmission"
Is this bad for the bike? it seems to love it, and doesnt lurch
or anything..

comments plz

speedshifting (as it is called) won't hurt anything...as long as you do it correctly and on upshifts only.

never admit anything to the dealer that your manual doesn't say is okay. it will only give them an excuse if something needs to be covered under warranty!!!

preload the shifter by applying just enough pressure to let it know you are there...roll of the throttle, if you had enough pressure it should jump into gear...If not you needed a little more preload on the shift leaver.

I wouldn't suggest doing this from 1st to 2nd but I know others have no problems doing it. I just don't trust it to jump to second without hanging neutral.

a lot of drag racers do it..... I actually just learnt this a little while ago.
but no, it shouldn't hurt the trannie, if you do it right.

or get an airshifter.... that's what i'm thinking about doing

I do it all the time, it won't hurt the bike but don't try it downshifting.

If you are a Jedi, like me, you can clutchless downshift also.

1. Close Throttle and decelerate. You are now engine friction braking.
2. Simultaneously quickly rev-match blip and preload or lightly flick the downshift. When you are friction braking and then blip the drive train slack must be taken up before the power is on. During this slack take-up the engine speed accelerates to match the transmition speed. At that moment with shifter preloaded the shift is complete when the “dogs” line up with the “windows”.

I think this is how it happens. Forum, correct me if I am wrong. Practice in a strait line with a partial clutch pull.

When you learn the way of the force, you will have a much more aggressive downshift that sounds very cool. Remember a shift should be heard and not felt.

I clutchless upshift and downshift on a regular basis. Always have, it's all in the timing....

<-- occasionally upshift with cluth... when im feeling lazy i will drop from 3rd or 4th as I'm coming to a stop w/o using the clutch... usually i do that around 15mph though, so the motor/tranny arent spinning fast anyway
