Default Using Front tire edge-to-edge, need some science...

Currently running a Diablo front and Avon AV46 rear while in transition to the Avons on my YZF600r.

I noticed this wknd that I am not only wearing the Avon rear edge to edge (well I guess over, the entire tire is uniform all the way across.) but now I am wearing the front edge to edge and the Diablo front is now V-shaped, or kinda Egg-shaped. The Diablo is nearing the end if it's usable life, and the Avon is completely round and has 3500 miles on it (Wonderful tire.)

After doing a hot lap on Rt 301 with an 05 GSXR1000, it was pointed out to me that I was using the entire front. (A first for me on the street anyway.) He stated that this was because my front tire profile was more flat and thus easier to get out on the front tire. But IMO this isn't the case...my tire is pretty V-shaped from a 2k mike Memorial Day wknd trip into WV...constant twisties. I'm wondering if anyone else has a theory on this (other than I'm freakin' flying...while I have to admit the GSXR and I were. I've never accelerated longer or braked harder into turns to negate the GSXR's HP advantage after corner exit) and in general, why do we tend to use up more of the rear tire's surface than the front?

Thanks,

Bryce

If your braking deep and pushing the front. This tends to wear the tire more. I wouldn't worry about it on the street. If your smooth on the street you tend to ride the back tire. I wish I could explain it better. On the track your trying to keep your weight over the the front.

Understood, but I (though anyway) was braking straight up getting it done before the corners. I don't see how this would wear the sides of the front shaping it to a V, but perhaps I am braking into corner and not realizing it.

You may be countersteering as you brake. When you brake hard you weight the front more. On the street you shouldn't be doing any deep braking. Try to get it all done before you turn.

You may be engine braking heavily into the corner, shifts weight to the front. A soft underdamped front suspension tends to aggravate this. What pressure you running the front?
