In general, you don't need to hang way off.
let's say a left turn. Best way is to rotate your hips to the left around the tank, turning your left shoulder with the torso, right thigh pressed into the right side of the tank. Left elbow tucked in, right elbow on the right knee as you're off the to the left side of the seat. Body low on the tank. Left shoulder pointing forward, head up, and head over the left handle bar. Left knee out. Not necessarily in that order...
Walla! Less complicated than a good golf swing. And easier to learn.
Three good examples. Rossi does not tuck his elbow, but he's not human. Duhamel hangs way off, too far for us mere mortals and is most likely overkill. Looks cool though!
