Default Well guys, I lowsided last night

I guess this day was bound to happen sooner or later. After 7 years of riding, I lowsided my bike last night while I was practicing riding in my favorite parking lot. It was a nice night and I figured I would stop in and throw it around the parking lot for a little bit and get some more practice from the experience. I've been around this parking lot about 2 dozen times so I knew what to expect and this day was not any different. The tires were sticky and I felt confident. As I was entering this tight circle in a left hand lean, I got low enough to where the foot peg touched the ground. Sadly enough, soon after that happened, I touched the ground and the bike slid out from underneath me. I guess the good thing is, I didn't panic and chop the throttle and didn't get a highside, but I did get some friction burns on my shoulder and my knee since those hit first. Bike is in good shape except I will need to replace the plastics on the left side. $1100 for all of it. :P

No frame sliders but I will be getting them after the new plastics arrive. All in all, I'm not really that upset but it's sad to see my pristine bike looking the way that she does. The things that touched were, upper fairing that houses the headlight, mid fairing, lower fairing, clutch lever, handlebar end, crankcase cover, signal, mirror, rear fairing, kickstand, rear footpeg, and swingarm. All of them are going to be replaced but the swingarm but I will need to gather up some money. Oh, the painful lesson

That sucks. Frame sliders are good, but not that good. Sometimes they work and other time they don't. The best on are the ones that you have to drill the frame. Some guy that I ride with has those (intuitive) and he lowsided in the parking lot also. The right fairing top/lower broke and got a little scratched too. He has a 01 honda 929. So, I guess the weight was a factor too.

Default Yeah, but......

Yeah, but consider the damage that would have been done if he didn't have the frame sliders. I lowsided for the first time this weekend at the track. My exhaust hit the angled apron on the inside of the turn and caused my rear to wash. It would have costed me in the thousands if I didn't have my frame sliders. Also, if it was a typical lowside, I wouldn't have had to replace my exhaust. So, I am looking at a total of $430 to replace my can and midpipe, rearset, clipon, and oil pump cover. The oil pump cover shaved a hole as it went off the lip of the track. Not too bad and all I got was a sprained thumb.

I'm just glad not to be a crash virgin anymore. It was bound to happen sometime.

Question for you. I also low sided last weekend. Not fun, but I was lucky the only thing that got really scratched up was my tail, right behind the rear seat. I'm very much a newbie (only been riding less than 6 months). So, anyway my question is where did you find the plastic? I was kinda hoping to get a stock Yamaha replacement. Also, read something about frame sliders; I'm not sure what they are? Can you help a new guy out?

Forgot the name of the place where I called but it's in one of the motorcyle magazines that I had lying around. The prices were pretty good compared to having to pay retail and they could get anything I wanted. If you want to call them to check on prices, the number is 1.800.860.0686. These parts are original Yamaha parts and have all the stickers installed alreay, well from what they said.

So if I had frame sliders installed on the bike, what kind of damage would I be looking at? Someone mentioned that it will not save you from scratches, it will just save the plastics. Right now I have nothing cracked, it just looks bad is all.
