Default Need to rally together on this shut off issue

I am sick of hearing about everyone's bike that shuts off while riding or coming to a stop. I am sick of Yamaha not steping up to the plate. This is a serious safety issue that can not go on! It seems to be with the 03 YZF R6's and up. So I believe it has to be with the fuel injection somewhere since 03 was the first year of fuel injection.

I am a Police Officer here in the state of Ohio and I have just emailed Motorcyclist Magazine to see if we can get some help and also, I have contacted the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration about this issue. We should not ride on unsafe bikes and we need not to be paying to trouble shoot an issue that is Yamaha's problem.

I need support and information from each person that has had this issue to get anything done. Masses get things done, if there are 8,000 R6's out there and I get only 20 people together, they will say too bad. But if there are as many as I think, we should get something done.

I just ask everyone that has this issue or having this issue to please post this info like others have before, but I am going to send this link to NHTSA and Motorcyclist so they can see this is a real issue.

I just need the follow posted.

Year of bike:
Miles on bike:
Any modes:
Issue: (ie, shuts off while riding or shuts off coming to a stop)
When your issue started:
Contact info: (ie, a good email address for them to contact us at )

Now, also, this might take time for this to get done and it might require all of us to write a letter stating what happened. But I will do whatever it takes to get this addressed and fixed!.

If you are willing, please post this information and I will leave this thread up for as long as it takes. Remember, this link will be monitored by NHTSA and Motorcylists, so no slamming, only facts til we get some answers.

Semper Fi!

Year of bike: 03
Miles on bike: 13,800
Any modes: Flush Mount, Devil SB2 Slip ON
Issue: Only happen when coming to a stop. The RPM will dip down and eventually cut the bike off. Some day it would cut off at ever single stop when the throttle is release. Adjusting the idle screw all the way up help but still will not idle correctly. After letting the bike cool down and restart the RPM would be around 2500 to 3000 because the idle screw was adjust so high.

Did some diagnostic with the different sensors (APS, AIPS, TPS and Lean Angle). Thought that some of the sensor were bad because it doesn't give the reading as specified in the Service Manual but I have not replaced any of the sensors.

Now the bike seems to be fine. I ran some Fuel Injection cleaner with two tanks of gas.

When your issue started: 1st shut-off at about 5,500 miles.

Keep em coming, I only have a few posts and I know that there are more than a few bike with this issue. Make sure as all the other posts say, CALL YAMAHA's Customer Service with the shut off issue, the more WE can do, the MORE that can get done. The LESS we do by saying, let someone else fix it, the longer and maybe never will this issue get resolved!

03 with 6k miles. RPMS are starting to jump around...They also jump around when cruising at a constant speed (barley noticable tho).

I the bike died one when it was cold. I started it up and took off real fast to park her from the driveway into the garage. When I let off the gas is just died.

However, I think my issue is my coils.

I've never had, or heard of this problem. Accually I thought you were just a "crazy" till I saw a few posts saying they have this problem to. I have an 04 and the only time I've ever had it cut out on me when I've accidently hit the kill switch.

Actually, the dealers are saying the same thing, until they read the thread below mine that says "engine shuts off while riding", there are a heck of alot of bikes doing this and yamaha is not really working on this, YET

Issue: This has only happened to me one morning, never happened before and hasnt happened since. I rode to school about 20 minutes on the highway at about 70mph steady in 40 degree weather so wind chill would be real cold. But when i exited the highway and came to the stop sign the bike just died. All electrical was still on and functional, just engine died instead of idling. It did start right back up but would die again if I tried to let it idle. I had to get to school so I just kept the idle up my holding a little throttle when at a stop through town. But when I got to school to park it for class I let it idle and it died. After a couple class I came out it started up and the problem hasnt come back since. I went to the yamaha store that I am very good freinds with everybody there and the are always helpful and honest. The service manager said he hadnt heard anything about this problem yet(about 3 months ago when it happened) But he called yamaha while I was sitting in his office to report the problem and also ask if they knew anything about it, they said this was the first time they have heard of anything like this. But like I said, that was the one and only time it has every happened was on that morning. And I have since ridden in much hotter and colder temps and done track days so it might have just been a freak thing.

Miles when this happened: around 13k
