ok i didnt read any of the posts except for the first one.... but heres my .02 I have 02 R1 which i think the EFI is very similar to the 03-04 R6's. I had the same problem as the stated by the poster, after I changed my oil.. turns out my oil level was too high, when i drained it to the correct amount the problem never happened again
goodluck to all

I had a similar problem at the track. I would come into the pits on my 03 and it would die when I pulled in the clutch to stop. Gave it a few minutes and then it would fire back up again with no issues. I noticed though it only happened when I was coming into the pits and my engine temp rose like from 180 to 220 in a mater of a minute or so, so I thought it was temperature related. Well my race plastic didn't have any vents or holes in front of the headers to let air flow over the motor (like the stock plastic does), so when I was coming into the pits slowly the motor got really hot. So I cut some holes and I haven't had the problem since. Just my input, but if anyone finds out if there is a problem with the bike, let all of us know.

Just happened to me. I was on my way home, nothing unusual. On the 405 freeway, center lane, and just felt as if I lost power. I gassed it, nothing. Started downshifting, nothing. Pulled thec clutch in, and silence. Luckily traffic was light, was about 2:30 AM. Turned it off, looked for any probs/wierd smells.. turned ignition back on, started right up. Got home with no probl. My bike is bone stock except for an elim kit and a Wolf slip-on I just put on about 3 days ago. So it definately wasnt the PCIII, since it doesn't have one, however I have one on order!
This is BS, obviously isnt a random problem as many are having it. Need to fwd these posts to Yamaha somehow. I only have 600 miles, 04.

Same problem
I've run into the same sort of problem, but with a little bit of a different cant to it.
I'll be cruising along at about 5k rpm and my bike will feel like I just hit the kill switch for a second, then flip it back on. It started about 1000 miles ago (at 9k) and will do it totally intermittently. The odd thing is that it only seems to happen when it's really hot outside, though the temp on the bike is fine ~180
I've replaced the spark plugs, and have the updated 04' coils. I had thought the new coils had taken care of the problem but after another 1000 it started up again.
I'll try the injector cleaner and see if anything comes up, as well as will check for codes.
I'll let you guys know.

Pulled the codes - turns out to be a faulty Air intake temp sensor. So if you guys ever have this check your codes!

So did you solve the problem? And how? Replace the sensor or just clear the code? My "03 tripped code 15 (TPS problem) and it ran like crap. I had it checked and there was no problem with the sensor. We just cleared the code and the bike has run fine since.
I would be interested in the solution to your problem.

This is not good
It just started on me today. 3800 miles 03 r6. Have a trip this week with my bike.
Checked everything above, no codes, oil fine and checked all connections.
Driving around 40mph just dies, pulled over filp switch off then on machine starts.
stats 03 R6, PC111USB, Mig exhaust, map 2 brothers with mod in high RPM.
Going to call in the AM, ask about coils and see if they have herd of this before.
Anybody in MASS have this problem, I deal with two dealers Parkway and 128 cycles.
Richard.
Ride untill you scrape.

Same Problem
Just bought a used 2003 limited edition R6 from NH with 2600 miles. While riding back to Boston, all of a sudden the bike dies while riding at like 70 mph on the highway. I give throttle nothing, I'm confused so I pull all the way over to the right lane, and coast it out til about 40mph when I figure I try pushing in the ignition. Starts back up and all of a sudden back to normal and I ride back to Boston with a dumfounded "I just got cheated" kinda look on my face. I'm in the Boston area as well maybe we can approach the dealer together and get this problem dealt with. The bike has a Micron exhaust and a PC3.

That was the first thing I did. It happend again 20 minutes in to the ride.
Called dealer, never herd of the problem, but for 150 bucks we can look at it for you.
I am not to happy about disconnecting the PCIII, I finally had smooth throttle in trafic.
Hey redfly17
You on the northshore or south?
I started at my dealer (Cycles 128), were i bought the bike. If they don' t work out i am going to try Parkway Cycles, I have worked them before.
But 150 everytime i have to have them look at the bike??
