I haven't had this problem with my 03 (knock on wood). Maybe one of you guys/gals with this problem should take the bike into a Yamaha dealer and have them check it out (especially if still under original OR YES warranty). Insist they do a thorough inspection (including contacting YAMAHA) instead of just letting them get off with a "Sorry!! Couldn't duplicate the problem!).

This sounds like a MAJOR safety issue.

I've recently run into this problem too... my bike would start fine, rev for a bit and then the revs would drop a bit, sputter and then die... The wierd thing is that it only happens once in a while, it's not consistent at all. I brought it in to the shop I get my work done as it started happening after they installed new plugs, K&N filter, velocity stacks and most importantly, a PC3. They thought it might have been the PC, but even with a zero map it still kept occuring. My mechanic thought it might have been the TPS (throttle positioning sensor), but without going into the bike it's hard to find out.

I'm going to try some injector cleaner and see if that helps.

i noticed someone mentioned the rotor bolt issue in the other thread. the symptoms are similar, but when you tried to start her up the starter would just whir cause it wasnt engaging. and cause the rotor wasnt tightened, the stator wasnt able to send a charge to the rectifier to charge the battery.

Anyone have a fix for this, yet? This happened to me on the track!!!

At the beginnning of the sessions she would run fine but towards the end of the 20 minute session of running hard around 12-15k rpms she would just die! If I pulled the clutch in and let it out she would roll-pop start and be fine as long as I was on the gas. Once pitting with the clutch pulled in she dies and wouldn't start until about 30 seconds later and she would run just fine as if nothing happened?!?!?! This happened several times before I called it quits for safety reasons. Last time I noticed when I opened the throttle partially she would start but would have to hold the throttle open so she would idle, otherwise she would die. I'm trying to do another trackday in about a month....DAMN!!!

Happened to me today. Coming to a stop it stalled even though the clutch was pulled in. Happened again about a half an hour later going around an exit ramp it just died like no gas, lights and dash were on. I stopped and restarted with no problem. I don't see how this could be a dirty injector/fuel line. There's something else to this. Could it be a faulty kill switch or something as Sc0tt mentioned in my other thread about this problem??

i'm also thinking it could be a bad connection to the fuel pump..........

Wow, this seems like a major issue. I just got an 2003 R6 and I am just starting to ride. The Odometer reads 1130 right now, I hope this is not going to start soon, better yet hope it never starts. Keep posting guys, I need to know what is going on.

OK mine started to this yesterday. I have an '03 with 8243 miles on it. No engin mods.

Rode for about 30 mins, then got into an area with allot of stop signs. every freaking stop sign the bike would die. Everything stays on but the engin.

Stopped to visit my dad for about two hours. Left and headed home, took about forty mins to get there. As soon as I pulled into the entry way to my apt complex the shit started again.

I have to hold open the gas to keep the engin from pissing out.

When I first took the 6 in for the 4000mi. service. The guys told me that they changed out some parts regarding to the charge system. Other than that I have no idea what is wrong with this bike.

I hope Yamaha is planing to do something about this. Or at least tell us what the real problem is.

I'v been having this problem with my 03R6 for some time now. We all need to put our heads together and work this out ourselves. here are a list of questions that everyone with this problem should answer, and then maybe we can find something in common, please add a question if you think it relevant to the problem.
1. YEAR OF BIKE : 2003.
2. MILEAGE PROBLEM STARTED AT : 10K miles.
3. WHAT DID UR YAMAHA DEALER SAY: Can't find the fault, to intermittent.
4. WHAT PERFORMANCE ALTERATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE : KN Filter,PCIIIUSB,Full race akrapovic.
5. WHAT ELECTRICAL IGNITION ALTERATIONS HAVE U MADE : none
6. WHAT HAVE U TRYED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, WITH NO SUCCESS : Altered the idle speed, no difference.

hopefully if enough of us fill in these questions we can work it out.
i'v also contacted some other R6 websites to help with the problem.
