Default cracked plastic...

about a week ago i noticed a little crack starting up on what i think is the air box cover, the most forward plastic part of the gas tank.(which is a separate piece) anyway its cracked from the screw that holds it to the frame for about an inch or so up towards the tank. i went to the dealer and of course they called Yamaha and they aren't covering it because the bike is a season old already(07 R6). anyone have this problem or have any suggestions, they gave me a customer service number to try but who knows where that'll take me.---thanks

It's a season old already, meaning they think it's a wear and tear item, or it's more than a year old?

It cracked because it was overtightened. I see this all the time.
