Default Has your 06-07 R6 engine blown?

I just had my 06 R6 with 3490 miles on it, no engine mods and 3 months out of warranty take a crap! The dealer tells me it needs a new crank, rod and bearing(s)! This is my 3rd Yamaha sport bike and I have taken them all to the track(no stunting)and the first time anything like this has happened. Yamaha is willing to pay for the parts but no help with the $2100 labor bill! This has gottem me to do some research on other forums and it looks like it may be more common on this new R6 engine.
I don't find it acceptable that a bike that still has the ORIGINAL tires with 3490 miles on it; cost $9,299 bucks, should need a new crank etc...

Even if I spend the $2100 to get it fixed, I have a bike where it is apparently acceptable for the engine to crap out on you every other year! I don't want to hear anything about the fact that this bike has been on the track and therefore, "it's the risk you take"! Right now, Yamaha is running a promotion where they throw in a 12 month NESBA membership with any new R6 or R1 purchased. I mean, do they know what NESBA does???

I hate to do this as I have loved the performance of the Yamahas in comparison to the Honda and Kawasaki I've owned, however, I am speaking with a lawyer this Wednesday and need any one who has experienced a similar issue with the new 06-07 R6 to share how Yamaha has handled their problem!

dude... look at the "Beware of the 2006 R6 engine" thread below. There are a number of people with the new gen R6 spinning rod bearings.

Ya, I've read the entire thread and it appears that Yamaha agreed to pay for labor and parts even though Katanapilot's R6 was 1 month past his warranty! Why haven't they agreed to cover my costs? Is it due to the fact that I've ridden it on the track or is it due to the fact that so many engines have blown that it doesn't fit in Yamaha's goodwill warranty budget? That's is what I am trying to determine!

you should be bringing up this story to them and tell them that you expect them to pay for your labour since they paid for his.

I doubt that they would offer to pay labour up front as they can offer you parts only and see if you will accept.

Yamaha's initial offer was to only pay for the replacement parts excluding the gaskets and incidental parts that would need to be replaced. After pleading with the customer service rep, they stepped up and said they would cover all parts but not the labor. I asked if there was any way that I could appeal their decision and the rep said that her supervisor would contact me within 24 hours. When I finally spoke with the supervisor, he said that their obligation ended at the 12 month mark and the most they were going to do is the parts. Again, I asked if there was anything I could do to appeal and he said, "he speaks for Yamaha and this is their final decision". That's why I have an appointment with my lawyer this coming Wednesday. But, any additional information I can get from others who have gone through this will help!

I spun one also. Trust me when I say, stop looking to your dealer or Yamaha to fix this. Look at the lemon laws in your state!! State the law to Corp Yamaha. If they do nothing, get a lawyer! That is, if it is within your states lemon laws for them to fix it.

Already checked into the lemon laws... Florida's lemon law does not cover bikes! Would have been my next step. I just hope my lawyer isn't more expensive than my repair costs!

Cheers,
Pcola

Just talk to your attorney, and take them to civil court. Ask for the total damages (parts + labor), PLUS attorney's fees. Hopefully they will settle with you out of court.

What does your attorney say?
