Default Tank cover weakness

Are you guys experiencing the same thing with your tank covers on your '06 (carbon-looking plastic below the tank on both sides)? The part that secures it to the tank (where the screw goes through) easily breaks off from the main piece? My right gave way first and now the left did.

As a temporary workaround I put super glue and tape to put the broken pieces together and just attach it back to the bike.

This part is not cheap either for about $28.50 especially if you will change it often.

Both mine are broken. I did the superglue mod since I've starting riding the track and figure that I won't care after the first time I - - - - - .

Thanks, guys. Sucks. Such a high quality bike and we have this minor problem.
One workaround I read in r6-forum is to not overtighten the screw and put some loctite.

Ha ha ha yeah I did the superglue thing and wrapped some electric tape around it. Seems to work so far.

I have the fix.
Still on the original set that have broken 3 times.
I epoxy'd the tabs, then used a rubber washer next
to the tank fastener, there is very little flex now and
should not break. Make sure the foam bumpers are still
attached to the inside, keeps them stable.

Hey Dozz!

Thanks for another fix.

Our mechanic friend did the same thing. Seems to be working fine now.
