Default R6 not starting but lights are on possible started motor? or battery?

ok my friends bike by which i reffered to in an earlier thread hasnt been used in like 8 months the engine was kept ticking over and such (started once a month and left on idle for 4 mins) but thats it no riding

anyways the bike now refuses to start and we dont know what we can do,

when i put the key in the tach switches on and so on, but when i press the ignition it makes some funny sounds (sounds from the rear of the bike) and then 'resets itself'?? the tach switches off all the lights switch off then switch back on (as if i have just twisted the keys in the bike)

anyone know what the prob could be? could it be battery? (however the bike does switch on in regards to the lights and such)

cheers peeps

Try charging the battery.

thing is i havent got a charger, and dont want to buy one only to find out it wasnt the battery,

also if it was the battery would the bike switch on and the tach light up?

the sound when i do press the ignition switch is deffinately coming from the battery area of the bike, like a massive whirring/clicking noise

The battery can be weak to the point where it WONT turn the motor over, but it will allow the tach to and gauge to cycle.

Whats the real harm in buying a simple 50 $ battery charger from sears or advance auto ? you can get a decent one with multiple charge rates, as well as a high output start mode.

Works on cars, lawn mowers, bikes... really no point in not having one.

You could try to jump it with a car, but make sure the car is off and not running.

Yes. The battery can be bad and you can still light up the display.

Walmart also sells chargers.... and if you have no use for it, just return it... but it is good to have a charger....

It's a weak battery. It doesn't have enough juice to crank the engine. The ticking you're hearing is the relay trying to switch over. Put it on a charger or just buy a new battery.

BTW...why is this thread uner "Warranty and PreMature Failure"?!

Like said above, your battery is dead. Bump/jump start it or charge it. No way around it.
