Alternate solution... If you're cute... a friend will do it all for free!
Psyco - why do I get a visual of you walking up in a pair of black shoes, white thigh-highs, a plaid skirt, white button-up shirt tied at the waist with your hair in pigtails and a puppy-dog look on your face saying...."Hey missssster,.........how can I get my frame to be all shiny like yours"

Ahh....the power of a woman

Absolutely you could sandblast first. This is what I had done to my rims instead of having them stripped with a Paint solvent. Aircraft stripper is the DIY means of taking off that excess paint from the rim first, but sand/bead plasting works great.

As for starting at a higher grit paper is really up to you. You may be able to go with a 240 or 400 grit first but if you don't get enough of the larger scratches and blemishes out of the rims first you may find yourself redoing a lot of work. As I have said before, it's up to you how you want them to look and how much work you put into them.

Hope this helps. This has got to be the Cheapest Best looking mod you could ever do for your bike IMHO. It's one of the most labor intensive, but the results really pay off.

I take it you haven't been around here long. Yes Psyco is female and a fine one at that. She is dating Kid. They are the R6MN King & Queen

i agree, my rims didn't come out blingy blingy cause i'm lazy and didn't go through every gauge i should have, plus i used steel wool, but they do have a very nice shine to them when theyre cleaned up, and i like it like that, much better than chrome i think, a little much for me. Next bike i'm probably gonna do it just to the rear and have that racy look kinda like rossi's m1.

don tknow if you guys ever tried this or not but on the smoother parts you can spray oven cleaner on the frame and let it sit then just wipe it off and that takes the coating off some sanding is still required but not near as much

polishing? never ever again man i spent ages and ages doing my frame swing arm and the lips of my rims . it looks cool for about the first month then you have to keep on cleaning it all the time and it takes forever to do if i can advice to anyone out there leave your frames how they are man the anodized finish ooks sooo much neater and is wel less effort to clean ,trust me i have found out the hard way and now i am having the frame wheels and swinger powder coated satin black it should look dope when done
