As far as ordering a bike, if you do not want a floor model or want a specific color, just go to your local dealer and put a deposit down. However, depending on your state or country, that deposit may or may not be refundable if you change your mind.(in California it is refundable). If you want to check on when a new bike is going to be released, go to www.yamaha-motor.com This is the US Yamaha official site and a few months before release, Yamaha will post release month, colors, price and any new changes. The 2010 R6 is not out, no matter where you live. (look for it Dec09/Jan10). The 09 does not have the cross plane crank. Sorry TazR6, whoever you talked to did not know the product.

yeah for most dealers of a decent size they will have dozens of bikes in crates for every 1 on the floor. If you tell them you want a bike that is out of the crate then they will give you one assuming that still have stock

I was going to get one 2 weeks ago (its the 09 model over here), but after talking numbers, I walked outside, saw my current one, and changed my mind lol.

As go fast said, the 2010 is not out. Also, it will not feature a crossplane crankshaft. If any of you have read anything Yamaha has been saying since the R1 came out, then you would know this. The crossplane crankshaft is not made for more power, but to make it more useable. R6's do not have this problem, and have no need for the new crankshaft, and as such, will probably never have a crossplane crankshaft.
Takashi (Yamaha project manager) has stated this many times. I have no idea what the 2010 has in store, but based on previous patterns, im guessing it will have a slightly updated engine and some new bodywork.

im in the market for a new R6 but i think i'll wait it out in anticipation for the 2010 model. Yamaha always makes subtle changes to it's models but i'll wait it out and see whats in store. if for some reason i don't like it the 09's should still be available at a cheaper price. it's a win win situation.

honestly im not a big a big fan of R6s, and your right not all of us are GP moto people, ive never been to a track and really dont plan on it, but i prefer the look of the new r6 over the 6s. it just seems more sleek. then again im poor so any 600 works 99-02!!! lol had the best fusion of both the 6s and 6.

Yamaha's official dealer showing for the 2010's is September 8th. I would imagine that sometime on the 8th or the 9th the website will be updated for everyone to see.
