Question 99 R6 with miss on acceleration

Hi,

New member here, so be kind :-)

I have a 99 Model R6, its done 50,000Km, I've owned it for most of those and during that time it has been serviced irregularly.

Anyway, bike has been running great but over the last few months I have been noticing a miss. The best way to consistently make it miss is in 2nd gear, let the revs drop to around 4,000 RPM and then get hard on the gas, at about 6-7,000 it just has a short stutter and gets back to business. If I keep on the gas I have had it do it a second time. (Seems to do it more often if I am going up a hill)

So, last weekend, I read all the good "How To" guides on this site and did a service. Oil change, new plugs, new air filter (old foam filter fell apart when I tried to wash it).

I road to work today, and for the first 15 minutes thought it was fixed. Bike felt strong, running smoother and I tried getting it to stutter during that first 15 minutes, and nothing, but then going up a hill, second gear through some twisties and stutter... doh!

And here I am.

I have been reading the forums and have some ideas:
  1. ignition coils - maybe, but as it only does it under acceleration not sure?
  2. Over fueling - may be running too rich, causing it to foul the plugs (they weren't too bad when I pulled them)? Maybe cause if I control my right wrist it doesn't do it.
  3. Pre-Ignition - the fact that it took 15 minutes to occur this morning makes me think its heat related. Maybe fuel is igniting to early on the piston up stroke, or the timing is out?

Anyway if anyone else had experienced this or has some ideas,i'm all ears.

Thanks.

What mods do you have? Go ahead and pull the coils and follow the manual to check if they are within spec.

Only mod, is a Vance & Hines Titanium S4 slip-on.

Bit more info, managed to make the bike miss in the first few minutes of my ride to work this morning so my idea relating to heat might be out. I will try to test the coils and see how they are.

Default 2nd Gear

Ok,

Turns out the engine is strong but it is actually 2nd gear poping out.

Under load 2nd gear is poping out causing the bike to loose drive. So it appears that I will be up for a new gearbox or a new bike...

Doh!
