Default New Mechanic Found Old Mechanic's Big Mistake!

SO...I took my bike to a new shop on an ex-mechanic friend's recommendation for carb work.

The new mechanic just called to tell me that he found an uncut key in my fourth carb intake! He says it has caused scarring of the intake and that aluminum debris might be all through my engine at this point. Mechanic says it could have seriously damage my bike's engine & might drastically shorten the engine's lifetime.

Needless to say I am bummed.

I had my carbs synced about a year ago at a different shop and 3 months before that I had personally cleaned my carbs in some routine maintanence. There were no uncut keys in there when I popped my carbs open & I know for a fact I did not drop an uncut key in there while I was working on them. I am not a locksmith, nor an authorized dealer that cuts keys.

I am going to go to the old shop that did the previous carb work (where, ironically, I had my spare keys made) and tell them what happened. I'm sure they will claim it couldn't happen there, but I know it did. Of course it was so long ago & I have no way to actually prove it was their mistake, which is so frustrating, but there is no other explaination.

I guess the only thing I can do is tell everyone I know what happened. With that being said, if you live in the SF Bay Area, think twice before going to Golden Gate Cycles for service...

Crazy indeed. I have always kinda had weird bad luck with motorcycles, but this takes 1st prize. Not even sure what to do about it. I guess I will just ride it till it dies on me, then push it into the bay....

Yeah, it was running; but in the past month or so, it was starting to act oddly. I chalked it up to maybe needing a carb sync or valve adjust, which is what I took it to the shop for in the 1st place. The mechanic who found it said he has never seen or heard of anything like this before. Everyone at the shop got a good chuckle out of it, I'm sure.

To add insult to injury, I got a call today from my tax preparer about a past years return they apparently messed up, according to the IRS.

When it rains, it pours....

NO MORE BAD NEWS PHONE CALLS!!!!

one of the funnier things i ever came across as a mechanic.. this guy brings in a blackbird (cbr1100xx) that is smoking.. he thinks he blew something up... he says well no i havent done anything wrong, i change the oil like i should, as a matter of fact i just changed it a few weeks ago and it started smoking just a little bit after.. so i check the oil and its filling the entire glass.. i was like.. well it looks like you over filled it a little bit, that could be the cause of your smoking, you should shoot for about 3/4 filled in the window..
anyway i start to drain the oil out.... completely fills up (3) 5 quart pans... the guy had 15 quarts of oil in this thing.. it was actually almost 16..
seriously though, how do you even do that?..
