99 R6 rattling sound issue!!

I have a 99 R6 with 13k miles, i rode it a few weeks ago and pushed it to 130mph and all of a sudden started to hear a ticking noise in the crank case when i exited the highway... no smoke, hesitation, revs fine, no oil leaks, has enough oil, coolant, etc, had service done, shifts fine... i had a mechanic check it and its not the cam chain tensioner and the sound is coming from the crankcase and gets louder pass 4k rpm~ the ticking is almost silent below 4k rpm... and its not the throwo ut bearing either... I've notified yamaha and they have to do a tear down! but i thought i'd post here first if anyone has had the same experience and know what it is...

i would wait on taking it in. see if it continues or not.

its an old bike these things/sounds are going to happen. i know i just discovered a new sound on mine the other day and it checked out just fine

I just started hearing the same sound on mine today, almost exact same scenario above 4-5k rpms. Its a 2000 w/ 35k+ miles always done regular maint.

My first thought was cam chain tension because sound is similar to a slacking chain. Natedogg Ive had noises come up before and chalked it to older bike etc but this doesnt feel right.

I'll post up on whatever I find out

hi there i have the same problem been about a week now & no longer feel safe on the bike. ticking got louder & can feel vibration right through the left peg getting it checked out during the week so any help where to start would be fantastic cheers.

i have (had) the same problem...
the engine is down now (cuzz 3rd cil. is death)
maybe its cranckshaft bearing... dk, i'll see...

just got another R6 (2004) and its making the same ticking sound. not too loud though. cruising at about 4K + it starts. i would LOVE to know what it is...

i don't know either...

it sound like some kind of chain...
and there are 2 chains in the engine.

I hear a light ticking around 4K RPM also but no perfomance problems. 04 r6 just under 4000 mi. Started hearing trying to do clutch wheelies. Chilled out the wheelies but then again I was dogging my R6 this past summer. There wasn't a day of riding I didn't touch 125mph.
