Arrow Please help - Full detail! LONG!!!

Ive posted 2 prior threads, but im ignored so I've decided to give you a precise insight into my problem.

I own a 1999 Yamaha R6, and its been a headache. I'll cut to the chase though.

My bike was running perfectly since I changed the battery, but it didnt last long. I was riding in the city one day, and took a sharp curve too fast (no signs notified me) So I ran into the curve and flew off my bike (I always wear gear, so nothing happened. My bike didnt really receive any damage, only cosmetic and dirt here and there. Right after the accident I asked someone for a jumpstart and my bike started right up. The battery died again though, So I had to get another Jumpstart, and it rode good again. The bike onl seemed to die at stops. So I decided to change the battery, and it solved te problem.

The next day I was making sure I had no mechanical problems. When I was revving the engine the throttle cable snapped. I left the bike at my mechanic friends house and ordered the part. After a week of waiting it finally came in. My friend replaced it and said it was good to go. When I went to go pick it up, it seemed like i'll work. When I went to start it up, It would only turn over. It ran once, but at full throttle it would only let me get up to 6k rpms, then slowly sputter down to death. So my friend suggested using the choke (I live in S. Florida, and never used the choke before) So when I pulled the choke lever, it disconnected from the carb. I didnt realize it until I saw a great amount of gas fumes were coming out of the exhaust. Eventually I ran out of gas.

My friend said that the choke was left in the "on" position, but since he was busy, he told me to take care of it. I took it home and re-connected the choke and tried starting her up again, but I killed the battery in the process. I then proceeded to jump start it with my cars batery (The car was running) It started a few times, but always died. Unfortunately, one time jumping it, I saw a small amont of smoke come out throught the seat area. After that the bike wouldnt even turn over. All I'll hear is a very low single click from the Starter Realy every time I pressed the start button.

I then joined this forum searching for a solution. After reading countless "How-to's", and others problems, I realized that my R/R connector (white thing) was melted. I proceeded to repair it , th way the how-to explained. Hoping this solved my problem, I tried to start my bike again, yet to no avail. A few days later I found out that I grinded down my Starters carbon brushing. i just got my starter back today and hooked it up again. I was hoping again for this to solve my problems, but nothing. It still wont even turn over.

I fear that maybe while trying to jump start my bike with my car that I fried something. I really dont know if the problem lies in my R/R or my Starter Relay. PLEASE! help me figure this out. It devistates me buying a bike, and not being able to ride it

So far the things that I've replaced on my bike:

-Battery (2 time)
-R/R female connectors
-Starter

I really dont have the money to take my bike to a mechanic or stealership.
At the same time I wish to learn about my bike.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

The one thing I can tell you is that jumping the bike off the car while the car is running is bad. Your lucky you didn't start a fire. If you use a car to jump a bike, NEVER turn the car on! too much voltage for the lil bike battery to handle. Did you do it more than once? Was the car(s) running when you received the jump(s) right after the crash as well?

I would start with the battery. Check it with a Volt meter. Should read 12+(V)olts (If it isn't toasted).

Next, visually inspect all of the connectors throughout the entire wiring harness for burns. You might find fried connectors and /or wires. Check the fuse box, R/R and Stator as well. You probably over loaded the system, sending a huge power surge (or 3) throughout the entire wiring harness, toasting something and/or many things.

Hope this helps....Pants

This is my first tim ever dealing with a bike in General. I never knew jump starting it with an on car was bad. Ive jump started my bike a couple of time with an on car. even after the crash.

Thanks for the info Pants ;) Ill start checking the wires now.

Yeah, unfortunetly, that is one of many things about bikes that you usually learn the hard way. You can use the car, just don't turn it on.

Let me know how the wiring harness search goes.

On this site you can download the manual for your bike. It will show you where everything is in terms of the electrical components. I have experience w/ electrical wiring and might be able to give you some pointers along the way if you need a hand...

Ya, I guess it was too late to learn the easy way lol.
I check my connections and it seems everything okay, atleast I think so (No experience in bike electronics) I dont have a Volt meter device, I only have a weird Screwdriver looking thing with a bulb inside ( similar to this: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...icaltester.jpg) of it to test if theres any current. Is there not supposed to be current on the 2 main cables that connect to the Starter relay? (not the battery, but literally on the starter relay) cause I placed the screwdriver thing on the black cable of the starter relay, and the littler red clamp on the other end, and the light didnt come on. Yet when I place it the same way on the battery, it lights up.

I appreciate the help yore giving me! Thank you Pants!

You should go buy an actual multimeter. They come in handy for any electrical project, not bike exclusive. It is worth the investment. I have a couple & use them all the time. This is the one I carry in my bag everywhere I go:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

Using a multimeter, you can trace the flow of current from the battery to any place in the bike's electrical system. Looking in the manual to show the location of components, work through the bike and determine whether there is current flowing from place to place.

If there is a short in your system, this is the way to find it. Example: Battery>Fuse Box. Fuse Box>R/R. R/R>Stator, etc. May take some time, but you learn pretty quick what is going on.

I will check back here 8/13 to see if you had any luck...

I know I should buy 1, but I really dont have the money lol...I already went through 2 batteries, repaired my starter, and spending money on my Bimmers gas isnt helping lol. Im pretty sure though it's the Starter relay. I have a guy coming over tommorow to let me test out his starter relay before I buy it, Hope it does the job

Thanks again bro.

you can test the starter relay by jumping the terminals coming off them (the two nuts) if the starter goes then and not with your key or the start button then your relay is bad.. just get a voltage reader.. check voltage out of stator.. shoudl be high, like 30-50v. then check voltage out of regulator, should be ~15 with bike revved above 5k, below should be 12-13. check and make sure your friend routed your cables right and connected them to the carbs right. dont charge your bike with anything more than like 10 amps.. a running car is like 50amps for comparison

Yeah blue00r6 hit it nose, although i didnt know you could test the stator with the m/m. How do you do that? might slove my bulging battery problem. But anyhow my friend jumped his gixxer with a car and man BADDD idea! Fried wire and connectors. He had the shope fix it and they had to go through his whole electric systems. So I hate to say it but if you cant get it you might have to spend more money to have someone go through all wires. And if you changed your wires your self on your regulator, make sure you connected all the wires the right way. Bet thats the problem.

Ya, I finnally bought my Starter Relay yesterday ($50) and the shit still won turn over lol, I said F it and takin it to a mechanic today. But I know for sure that the R/R is connected ood cause I did every wire, 1-by-1.

I appreciate your guys input on my problem, Thanks!
