Default How-to: move recitifer for more air

there was an empty hole behind the original space so all i had to do was drill another (right under battery/fuse box area) I attached the new recitifer and then wired in the new plug. The plug is a perfect fit after a small amount of trimming and or grinding on it.. Its from a nissan 350z window motor switch. I soldered all the wires and taped them and finally wire loomed them. Pictures are below...

will the hugger hit that on big bumps? Any benefit to moving it to keep cool? does it just stop it from burning out?

The answer to your first question is in the form of your second question.

What are some signs that the rectifier is bad? I ran my '99 for not even a couple minutes, felt the damn thing and it almost scalded me.

Im trying to find out why my 6 isnt charging right. The voltage while running (over 3500+) varies anywhere from 11.5-12.90 and maybe a little more. Ive seen upwards of about 13.5's.

Does this kind of sound stator related? Or leaning towards a bad rectifier? If I wasnt clear feel free to ask me wtf Im talking about.

when my bike is at idle it charges up too 13.3. one way to rule out if the rectifier is good or not is to check the resistance of the stator coil here is a link that will help uwith that. (last summer i had alot of issues with that so feel free to e-mail me dan2kowalski@aol.com ill hlep u the best i can )

Ive determined that my charging system is just "weak".

It charges when revved, but not much more than 13.0v.

At idle the rectifier is cool, and as the rpms come up, it gets warmer, almost like its too hot to touch. Is this normal?

Going to Yamaha tomorrow to talk to a tech and/or price some parts. I checked the main grounds and they dont look to have any corrosion at all. Checked the fuses, non blown or loose.

Sounds to me like the stator just isnt keeping up anymore. Its got 12,300 on it. How long should you expect them to last?

Ill keep it up to date.

yea it could be that the stator isnt puttin out enough , i have heared about stators just going. and for the rectifier its suppose to get really fukin hot so i wuldnt worry about that. well good luck let me know how u do
