i raised the forks on my '02 8mm's and WOW did it ever make a difference!!
i was running stock settings with a 70 profile tire. Went to track with that setting and every turn i was running wide as shit. Now with the forks lowered, it holds its line soooooooo damn well. I'm very impressed.... feels so stable.

good write-up, but are all those steps really necessary?
I've adjusted the fork height for a 70 series front on my sv with it sitting on the side stand, no jack. I just loosened one fork from the triples, raised it up, and tightened it back down. Then did the same to the other fork.
Is there any reason this wouldn't work on the r6?

Technically, that's not ideal. If you have weight on the front end, that means that one side may be partically compressed. In theory, it should be fine, as your are just hooking up the top tubes, and they should be equal distance on either side, but I'm not sure that I'd want to do it that way.

This was a great write up! I just did this to my '04 earlier today. Granted it took a little longer than expected, I think it was because I kept checking my measurements all the time.

Did this conversion tonight due to the fact that the shop put a 70 series on without telling me. Haven't had a chance to ride yet but I have a concern before I do. On the '04 model is it necessary to raise the fender. I have about 6mm clearence between the fender and the tire. Will the tire balloon up that much? Before anyone asks I am running Pilot Powers.

I just did this tonight, the original height was 25.4mm ( 1 inch) im sure you can do the math to figure out what the new height is. Also i had to raise my fender, im running dunlop 208 gp's, and they rubbed the whole way.

2001bluer6,
I have an '02 also and I just bought a set of Diablos for it like you. The guy before me had Dunslops on there. When I get everything back together (I am having the wheels powdercoated), I will let you know. From what I have been told, the rear ride height can not be adjusted with OEM shocks. You will need an aftermarket. I know, it sucks !!

I just had Race Tech set my basic suspension up for me this past weekend at a track day. When I told him that I shimmed the rear to comp for the 70 series, he said ideally I should raise the forks in the triples instead. Figured I would mention it for what it is worth. Now to post in the How-To for the shims to stir it up a bit there.
