Hey, all.
I was a little miffed, to say the least, that putting a Yoshi TRC full exhaust system on my bike did little to increase the sound. I looked all over for a how-to for removing the silencer from my system, but all I found were some vague references to what you need to do. Maybe I can give a few other pointers so no one else messes up the parts you end up taking out like I did.
Once again, I have a full Yoshimura TRC system, the can is Titanium with a carbon fiber end cap. My bike is an '07 R6. Sorry for lack of pictures, but it's really not all that hard to do. Just knowing where to attack helps out a lot. Also, bear with me; I'm not very inclined in the ways of mechanics. Here goes:
Under the tip of the exhaust, there's a rubber grommet. Remove this to access the retention screw, which also needs to be removed. It's a hex-key, I think 5mm.
To remove the silencer, you actually need to remove the brass (?) ring from the very tip of the can. I achieved this by carefully wedging a screwdriver between the ring and the titanium lip to a point where I could strike the screw driver with a hammer on top, then bottom, top, then bottom, repeating until the the ring and silencer came out. Be sure to check that the interior piping is following the ring; it may want to stay behind a little bit. (Come to think of it, I thought I spotted a notch in the ring, on the bottom side. Maybe this is a starting point for knocking it out?)
When you're done, you'll have the ring, the silencer pipe, and the retention screw. Since the screw actually screwed into the silencer piping, I don't recommend trying to reinstall that ring, since nothing will be holding it in but friction. The result is a much more beefy and full sound. I like it much better than with the silencer in. If you have this system, I totally recommend this mod.
One last thing: Use caution when dealing with that ring. It's a very soft metal. Needless to say I messed mine up pretty good. If you ever think you'll need to reinstall these parts, you'll probably not want them all messed up. Just a heads-up. ;)
Hope this info helps. Good luck, and safe riding!
