Default Changing drain bolt at every oil change

I was looking at how to DIY for oil change and notice the writter stresses on the fact that the bolt and washers should be replaced... What i want to know if others do that as well...

Thank you

i have not heard of replacing the bolt itself but i have heard you should replace the crush washer every change.

but i haven't done that and no problems so far, although next oil change i will replace it.

I didn't change the oil washer and everything is running just fine. I would have but the dealer is hella far...I think that washer is like $.10 cents. Mine looked absolutely perfect before and after changing it.

It will prevent oil leaks that people tend to solve by over tightening your bolt. The crush washer is 10 cents or less and should be changed every time. Once it's "crushed" into place and you loosen it up it's done for and needs replacement. Although you could get away with never replacing it, it should be done. Stock up if you have to so you always have one around. As for the bolt, that is good for life.

I know common sense would answer many questions .. forgive me for the ignorance but i don't have much knowledge on washers or bolts.. My understanding was as long as the washers are intacked in one piece then itcan be reused but turns out we need to replace it.

About changing the bolts.. i got this off from the How To section pertaining to "oil change?"...

"It is not a bad idea to keep track of the common fasteners and parts that may need replaced later on and order spares to have on hand.
...BE SURE YOU HAVE REPLACED THE DRAIN BOLT !!!"

I've known of instances whenbolts were over torqued(tightened more than what they are supposed to) and eventually in due time it broke because of shear fracture over the period of time..

None the less thanks again for the input guys ...

I have never changed the washer or bolt for that matter on any of the bikes I've had and have never had a problem. I can understand replacing the washer from time to time but everytime is unneccessary IMO.

Default Stripping

you don't want to strip or dent your oil pan either. The washer will prevent this.
