chain lubing...
i read the how to, BUT how do you lube it, from start to finish (i.e. do you take it off? if so, how? can you lube it on the bike? if so, what do you take off body wise, to get to the chain?)

hmm.... i always lube my chain while its on the bike... pretty simple if u have a rear stand...
just put it up on the stand in neutral and get ur chain lube... i spray the chain as i spin the back wheel and let it sit for a good 20-30 mins...
if u don't have a rear stand, just move the bike so the chain moves and u can apply to each section... again, let it sit for a good 20-30 mins and ur on ur way

Ride the bike first for around 5 mins and then apply lube to it and let it dry a little bit coz if not all lube will just come out during the bike is in motion.
yeah that's what suppose to be done put it in the stand and manually turn the rear wheel.

I use the stand too, but i apply it when i come back then not using the bike anymore to let it dry up. I did not use spray, i use 4T. After changing engine oil use the left over want. I also apply to keep the chain smooth. I use is matter for the last 1 1/2yr on the same chain, it still working good. You can try...
Cheers

It's always a good idea to clean it first and then lube it. I use an old toothbrush and kerosene. You'd be surprised what comes off!! Pretty nasty shit. Think about it. All the dirt floating around in the air sticks to your chain and builds up over time. If you just lube it without cleaning it first, all you're doing is encasing the dirt....

+1 what the others have said.....just make sure your bike is OFF when you lube your chain. Your fingers will thank you.

is it safe for the O-rings if you use kerosene on your chain? i also heard that wd40 has a high alcohol content and that would also eat away on the O-rings? i'm not sure if this is true or not but only what i heard.

I dont know about kerosene but wd-40 is cool for cleaning, or get some motrex 611 chain clean its the best i've used. But I always make sure I lube it up as soon as possible after using any kind of chain cleaner.
Also if you dont have a stand, but have a buddy available its easy to do. I keep a can of lube in the trunk and this is how i do it on the go or see somebody that needs it done. Just so they can be a little safer.
Just put it in neutral and put the kick stand down, and have your buddy hold it where the back tire is off the ground while pulling the bike over on the kickstand, you know how you would usually spin the bike in a circle yourself. Then you spin the back tire while lubing. Easy 'nuff. Remember ever 2 fill-ups also.

uhhhhh...the yamaha manual says to use kerosene to clean the chain so if yami says to do it then its OK. they also say to lube with reg 30W motor oil...if i remember that correctly. i personally use a chain specific lube but i have not noticed any difference in wear from when i used to use the 30W oil.

I've found some Motul Chain cleaner and lube, going to give that a try soon... I just didn't want to be handling kerosene.
