Default HOW TO: Coolant Change 06 R6

1-First thing you need to do is remove the following
  1. Right Side Panel, Right upper side cowling, right lower side cowling right bottom cowling.

2-Once you get those off; you need to remove the radiator cap. This will let the fluid drain out nice and easy.

3-Next you have to remove the coolant drain bolt. This is located on the bottom of the water pump.

4-Once you remove it, watch out because it drains really fast. Just like this:

5-Next you have to remove the water pump inlet hose. It is the hose on the outer most side of the pump and the main hose that goes from the radiator to the water pump. Like so
inlet hose.jpg

6-Once you get everything drained out; you have to remove the coolant reservoir. Refer to step one to locate the bolts, they are the two bolts on the left had side of the tank. Once you get it off drain the coolant out.

7- Now its time to flush the system. It is recommended to use only distilled water to flush your system. But when I talked with my dealer they said they used water from a hose as long as its soft water because it has been filtered to get rid of allot of the elements in it. I flushed my system with two gallons of hose water and one gallon of distilled and I also flushed out the reservoir with hose and distilled water.

8-Once everything is flushed out; install the water pump inlet hose and the coolant drain bolt. The drain bolt has to be torque to 7.2 Ft/LBS and also is recommended that you replace the washer once you reinstall it.

9-Reinstall the Coolant Reservoir. The bolts on the tank just have to be tight, no specific torque spec on them.

10-Fill System with coolant. I used a coolant called Engine ice. I bought two bottles of it, it comes in 2 liters per bottle. DO NOT MIX COOLANTS!!!!!!!!The following specs are for the quantities in the Reservoir and Radiator:
2.30 L Radiator
0.25 L Reservoir.

11- Start your engine and let it cycle though. It will suck some out of the radiator and refill your system. Once you get the bike to normal running temperature turn the bike off and check the coolant level one more time and fill as needed.

Then reinstall your fairings the same way you took them off. You are done, Start to finish I think it took me about an hour.

You can save yourself a lot of work and not remove the fairings or the coolant res.

Just use a funnel to refill the rad.

yeah you can......but you have to take the uppers off to get to the lowers and if you use a funnel to fill the res you wont get any out since the tubes come out the top.

Huh?

I flushed and filled the entire system with only taking off the black cover under the right clip-on.
