Default How to install angel eyes

I would like to first start off by saying that there are other ways/steps/procedures in doing this install. My way is not necessarily the best.

TOOLS REQUIRED:
screw drivers (fillips and flat head)
allen wrench
Socket and wrench (10mm socket)
drill bit
electric drill
solder iron
electrical wires
electrical tape

STEP ONE: Unplug the battery connections
To do so, remove the front seat. There are two bolts holding the seat in place. The location of the screw are circled in red in the picture below.

Unsrew the positive and negative terminal in the battery.

STEP TWO: Remove the headlight assembly from the bike.
To do so, follow the steps below.

1) Remove the left and right side mirrors. There are two 10 mm bolt holding the mirrors in place. The picture below shows the bolt's location.

2)Remove the 4 bolts circled in red below with an allen wrench.

3)Do the same thing for the other side.

4)There are 4 rivet plugs under the front fairings below the headlight. Remove it by pushing the center rivet into the plug and pulling both the plug and the rivets out.

5)If you pull apart the side fairings, you would see the plug for the side signals. Unplug the connections on both sides.

6)Remove the piece outlined in red below. The easiest way to do so is by pulling up and out the corner that is closest to the bike frame and then pushing the entire piece forward. Do the same for the other side.

7)There are two plugs that connects to the headlight and speedometer. Unplug it. It is shown in the pic below. Also pull out the side fairings to release it from the bike.

8)Remove the 4 screws shown in the pic below. This holds the headlight and front fairing to the bike. Remove the same bolt on the other side.

9)Remove the two solenoid circled in red below. They are located behind the speedometer.

10)Unplug the blue plug from the bike. This plug is the connection to the headlight. Also unplug the other side.

11)At this point, you should be able to remove the headlight and front upper fairing from the bike. Now, you must remove the headlight from the upper fairing. To do so, remove the three screws shown in the pics below.

12)This next step is NOT necessarily but i decided to remove the intake grill so that it doesnt melt in the oven.
Remove the three screws holding it in place.

13)Remove the bulb from the headlight.

STEP THREE: Remove the headlight covers from the headlight. To do so, preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Throw in the headlight and let it sit for 3-5 min. Take out the headlight and using a flat head screw driver, pry out the covers.

STEP FOUR: installing the angel eyes.
1) Loosen the screws holding the projector rings in place.

2)Place small, thin metal wires underneath the rings. I used 4 for each angel eye per ring. Equally spacing it out.

3) Screw back the screws

4)Place the angel eyes ontop of the projectors. Twist the wires together to hold the angel eyes in place.

5)I cut off the excess wires and tuck the left over underneath the angel eyes (between the angel eyes and projector rings)

6)The angel eyes should now look like the pic below. I used electrical tap to wrap the excess red wires from the angel eyes so that it can be blended in with the black housings of the headlight.

7)drill two holes (one on each side of headlight so the wires on the angel eyes can go out from the headlights).

8)The angel eyes should now look like this.

9)Set the headlight covers in place. At this point, you should not be able to push the covers in. Reheat the headlight w/ the covers set in place for another 3-5 min. Now that the headlight is warm, you should be able to push back the covers into place.

STEP FOUR: Reverse the uninstall procedure in install the headlight back on to the bike.

STEP FIVE: for the wiring, i connected the red wires from the angel eyes to the battery's positive terminal. The black wires was connected to ground. I used a switch so that i can turn the angel eyes off/on whenever i wanted. I choose a convenient location for the switch where it wasn't visibily seen by the public eyes.

AND NOW THE FINAL PRODUCT.

NO it will not (if you follow the temperature and time requirements). I did the install and then figured i should post a how to on it and so I reinstalled everything and put it back again. which meant that i did this install twice and w/ no problems what so ever. I pretty much set the headlight on the racks of the oven. I did not place the headlight on anything. Just make sure the oven is 300 degrees and that the headlight is in there for 3-5 min. Any more than that than ur at ur own risk.

Thanks for the write up man. Just what I needed to remove the broken headlight assembly on my bike and replace it. Saves me some rivet/screw searching.

I'm also doing a turnsignal mod (similar to the red lights in the corner of your lenses) as well, glad to see it shows up fine.

Good switch placement, hadn't thought of that.

NP, exactly why i posted a how-to on it. I was thinking of the turn signals mod but i figured my big stock signals would do just fine. And for the location of the switches, its very hidden and easy access to it when i am riding.

does anyone know if you can buy the little clip connector that connects the turn signals not to thread jack this was an excellent write up but i am trying to to some mods with my turn signals and was wondering if you can buy that connector. there are two pieces one from the turn signal and one from the battery area and they clip together.
