Default "break in" a new bike

so is this right: you're not supposed to ride the bike over 8k rpms or for more than 30-40min, for the first 600 miles?

I just bought an 07 about a month ago and have been living by the manual. My mechanic friend suggested a few years back that you should break it in like you are gonna ride it like Rsixxen wrote. My friend the mechanic, was very experienced (factory mechanic for over 15 years) but I still think if you press them hard initially you run the risk of galling parts when the manufacturing burs are worn down rather than wearing them down evenly. Probably would be alright either way but I would hate to slightly burr a bearing or other part that may not prematurely wear out until the second year. Ill play it safe. I think it should only be about another 2 or 3 weeks before I can open it up.
Think of it as if you get to open a birthday present twice.
