give the 06 slipper....more slip
WARNING - IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR WARRANTY CONSULT WITH YOUR LOCAL YAMAHA DEALER BEFORE ATTEMTPING THIS MODIFICATION AS IT MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
The modification itself is pretty straight forward but does require some attention to detail.
You're going for 11 in the exploded view of the clutch below. You'll need to pull the clutch cover off, no need to drain the oil but make sure the engine is cool. Then remove the pressure plate, 2 in the picture, and the clutch boss nut that holds the basket in, 10 in the picture. The clutch boss nut has small detents in it just like the countershaft sprocket nut so make sure you bend them back out before attempting to remove it. And use an impact gun, other wise you're going to have to come up with a way to hold the basket while you crank on the nut.
Once you've got the nut removed you'll see the three Y springs, 11 in the picture. Just pull one of these and then put everything back together. Make sure you punch the detents on the clutch boss nut back in once you've installed it and when installing the pressure plate tighten the six bolts in an alternating pattern like you would when changing a flat tire. I'd also suggest using a new gasket and sealer for the clutch cover to ensure there are no leaks when you're finished.
Exploded view of the clutch:

One thing to make sure of when you install the pressure plate. There is a punch mark on the pressure plate that you must line up with one of the three punch marks on the basket as pictured below. The pressure plate will go in incorrectly if you aren't paying attention. A buddy of mine made this mistake and ended up replacing his clutch plates and basket. Plus the slipper won't function at all.
Line up the punch marks:

Torque specs for installation:
Clutch Cover Bolts - 8.7 ft-lbs (1.2 m-kg)
Clutch Boss Nut (10) - 85 ft-lbs (11.5 m-kg)
Pressure Plate Bolts (1) - 5.8 ft-lbs (0.8 m-kg)

I was really thinking about doing this to mine today.....but haven't decided yet. It seems a lot on the r6-forum are doing it with great results. And it seems it would only take about 30min to do. Hmmmm......if anybody does it without an impact wrench please speak up and list the size of that nut. I was thinking you might be able to stick a bar inbetween that piece and loosen it but who knows.

This mod is pretty easy to do. Blue Dude, do yourself a favor and borrow an impact wrench. It is so easy and not worth messing with something else. As for the time, yes 30 minutes is about all it takes.

Wait what about the mod posted on r6-forum where people did not remove any of the springs, but instead removed the ears on two of the three springs and put it back in in the following order:
1. no ears
2. ears
3. no ears
I have heard this generates much better results. Can someone confirm?

Blue Dude, are you referring to the end of this link? If so, there is nothing but praise as far as I can see for the 1. no ears, 2. ears, 3. no ears version of the slipper mod. So are you saying this is a bad?
