Default How-to: Install a DIY Pinlock anti-fog visor insert kit.

In this thread i will show you how to install a DIY Pinlock visor insert kit. You have to buy a specific kit for you helmet, they cater for most of the big brands. Pinlock inserts come as standard now on most Shoei and Arai lids. I went for a Pinlock over others brands such as Fog-City or Oxford as they stick to the visor and can't be removed for cleaning.

You will need:

DIY pinlock for your helmet
Cordless drill
Masking tape
scrap of wood
C clamp
A good damage free visor

1. First start by removing your visor from your helmet and clean, i've not shown this step as helmets are different so not much point.

2. Lay the clear template supplied with the kit over the visor:

3. Now put some masking tape on both sides of the visor where the cross is to stop the drill slipping and scratching the visor then make an indent where the cross is using something sharp:

4. Remove the template, now use the C clamp to secure a scrap of wood to your work surface so you can drill into it.

5. Now drill where you have marked, there is a drill bit included in the kit:

6. Repeat the previous steps on the other side of the helmet, the template is marked left and right, you will now have 2 holes in the visor:

7. Push the pins through the holes, the pins are eccentric and have to be fitted so the larger part faces to the back of the visor:

8. With both pins in gently bend the visor flat and insert the pinlock insert, once it is located on the pins let the visor return to its original shape, the insert should be tight against the visor if it isn't you can rotate the pins to adjust the insert and puch it tighter to the visor.

9. Now re-install the visor onto your helmet, have a cup of tea then go enjoy some fog free biking:

Did a little review of it in the safety gear section too. I think this anti-fog insert and my Buff neck scarf are some of the best bits on kit i've got in years!
