Default Dirt cheap camera mount

I don't understand why camera mounts cost so much when its so simple. This one isn't adjustable but you could put a ball joint on if you wanted.

Draw the design on paper. The hardest part is to get the bolt holes in the right place. Cut the design out.

Glue the paper cutout to 5mm plywood. I would have gotten PVC if I could find it but ply will do the job. Trace the outline of the paper onto the ply.

Drill the holes. I’m not sure where the best position for the camera will be so I put a few holes. I also want to mount my MP3 player on here.

Whip out the old jig saw and cut that sucker.

Sand, clean etc.

Yes I own a dremel,
Yes I mod PCs,
Yes I am a nerd,
Yes I wouldn’t get laid if I didn’t have a bike.

Countersink the holes.

This is solarfilm. Its used to cover RC planes. You peel the back off and iron it on. It shrinks and sticks, light weight and durable. Visit your local hobby shop. You have to do something to prevent the ply from warping when it rains. PVC would have been a better material.

Get yourself some 5mm countersunk bolts. I got crappy ones but I’m still looking for decent anodized allen heads.

Now I can film my squidding.

The area where you screwed the mount to the tank might start cracking. You will be putting a lot of stress on it with a camera and the bike bouncing around.

yea, and the camera will cause an unstable shaky picture. best bet, take the template and have one made form metal.

You think 6 ply will crack? I doubt it but time will tell.

You're rite, it is shakey. The camera's stability software only copes when I'm taking it easy. I'm going to put rubber washers on the mouning bolt and see if it helps. If not I'll get a spring.

Why would metal be better? 2mm mild steel will bounce like a springboard.

I got a cool Idea: I'm going to mount a gyroscope with a ball joint. Drive it with a small electric motor and mount the camera on top. Should put an interesting perspectinve on cornering. The only issue I have is the ball joint has to be high above the tank or the flywheel will foul on the deep corners. Dunno where I'm going to be if I've got a flywheel rotating 20cm above my tank.

looks good but is the camera angled at the right view after you put it on?

Just screwed it in. Standard M6 bolt fits all cameras. I put a small stills that takes clips. The angle is perfect, you can just see the speedo in the pic. I'm still looking for a digital video cam that will fit my skydiving helmet. Will post video when I get it.
