Default 99 vs 01 R6

Hi!

I am reading the latest Performance Bikes magazine which has a big
article on the newest R6 and the previous models.

I am currently looking to buy a 02 model R6 but got a little stomach ache when i read the magazine.

It actually sais that the 01 model R6 has 96 bhp, and the 99 model has 99 bhp.
And the 1/4 mile: 99 mod = 11,15 sek, 01 mod = 11.75.

Not that it makes a BIG difference but i just want a faster bike when i buy a newer bike... So is it actually true?
Top speed of 99 mod is 164 mph, and 01 has 158 mph..?

And then they have a big comparison with 58 bikes on the Performance Bikes
test track. The 02 model (which i am currently wanting) ended up on 42nd place. 99 mod. finished on 51.st though (but that was on wet track) 15 sec. behind 02 model.

They add comments on the right side of the page on each bike, and about the 02 model it sais: "Surprisingly slow" and "Here`s that 2002 mod R6 underperforming on the track)

Should be noted that the most of the other bikes that has better times then the 02 R6 is either newer or has more ccm (like the 93 mod Fireblade)

My good old VFR 400R 92 model timed in 10 seconds behind the 99 mod (wet)
that was also a bit of a shocker..

So what do you guys think..? Has any of you tried the 99 mod vs the 01/02?
I have tried a 99 model and a 00 model but couldn`t tell any difference.

I am really wanting a 02 model with the red/white colours, love it.
Haven`t got the money for a newer one...

So speak up everyone.. Opinions?

99-00 are the same bikes. The 01-02 bikes are virtually the same with VERY minor improvments - nothing you would notice though.

I have that same magazine issue.

To me, it seems that there are the typical last-minute-decision discrepancies with their big test around their track (was it a bona-fide track, or an airport runway/parking lot?).
I only skimmed the article so I may be dead wrong, but I think they're running a bunch of different bikes on different days in different weather, track, and rider conditions.

Also, I'm under the impression that these bikes are (some, anyway) used ones off a used bike dealer's showroom floor or from some buddy of theirs, and they are sporting some questionable features like worn/mismatched tires, altered sprocket sizes, dry and squeaky suspension linkages, squishy, needs-an-oil-change forks, and who-knows-what-else-is-wrong-with-thems.

Basically, it's decent wintertime reading, but I'd take any results with a grain of salt.

I've had 1 99R6, 1 01R6(still have it) and 2 02R6's...

You wont notice a difference.

If you want the 02 color scheme, then get an 02.

There are very minor changes as someone mentioned.

- timing is advanced +3 degrees
- harness is changed, the connectors under the trunk and the relays are different
- new cdi
- Gas tank mount they changed the shape of
- Guages are different, oil light will be on if you put it on a 99-00 model
- Undertail with LED lights along with battery tray
- Wheels are coated black instead of silver on 99-00
- Decals and colors vary throughout the years

Wheels are only silver on 99 models I'm pretty sure. Plus with North American graphics the '00 blue model is the only year not to have the 'R6' logo on the tail but instead on the bottom of the lower, with a white-tipped tail, unique, and better looking IMO.
