Default HELP!! 2001 R6 Charging Issue??

Well, I've been reading all the threads on here and most of them say that if you have a charging issue with a 99-02 R6 its probably the plug going to the rectifier.

Well The male and female end of my rectifier look completely fine, I took it apart and looked.

So whats next? I don't want to dump another $100 into a stator without knowing for sure that its the problem. I bought the battery last year because the bike's electrical system started acting up. It was fine ever since then but I just tried to go out riding yesterday and the battery was completely dead. So I'm assuming its the charging system.

P.S. The bike has HID's, could that have anything to do with it? Thanks for any info.

ok, i was once in your position, died on a family member once, then died on me 2 time, the second time when i pulled ove i got a nail in my rear tire. that was fun. anywho

1) we changed our plugs first, if its loose, burnt anything change it. ride it around and see if it dies. if it does go to 2

2) replace the rectifier. IT IS A ABSOLUTE *(&(u to get the dam thing out. honstly the only way to check it is to take it into a shop, we took ours into a local motorcycle repair shop. and i guess they said they had the tools to check it. the guy told me that the rectifier was bad so they replaced it, (afterwards i rode it, it died on me rofl. i was extremely pissed off but when we took it back he said the problem was A LOOSE Wire. i know right?

if your reading up to 3 and the problem isnt solved.... i wouldnt want to be in your shoes

3) replace the stator coil. (this was the first thing we checked when it died the first time. and honestly the connectors looked like crap. but we where getting a semi-decient reading. btw if you take it in the shop they will probably check this for you. and save you the trouble of draining oil to look at it.

well thats the best i can come up with. look around your bike for wires that could short out idk. all i did was tell you how i solved my problem. good luck and pray to whoever you believe in.

Check the battery with a Volt Meter with the bike running to see what the charging voltage is. Should be around 13.5. I would do this first before replacing anything.

I did use a voltmeter on the battery while it was running. It sometimes charges (around 13 volts) and other times it doesn't (goes down to 10 volts) and the battery starts to drain pretty quickly. So either the stator or the rectifier is working sometimes and sometimes it isn''t. i'll start by replacing the rectifier since it is cheaper. Thanks for the input guys.

check out this website, from a cbr forum based in australia. very relevant. helped me out with the same problem http://cbr250.com/cbr250/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31234 the guy's an electrical engineer. chances are it will be your rectifier as they don't last forever but stators usually do

Just replaced the rectifier, checked it again with the voltmeter, and it is good as new, 13.6 volts at idle.

$80 and ten minutes later its all fixed. Thanks for all your input guys. Gotta go do some ridin'
