1) Take a MSF course in your area, before you ever buy a bike.
2) Get some proper gear so if you dump it, you dont get seriously hurt - Helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, and pants.. . in that order. For the love of God, wear your helmet.
3) Some might disagree w/me, but dont buy a 100 hp bike for your first bike. These things are so easy to get away from you if you make a mistake. . .. You'd be much better off buying a used Ninja 250. Ride it, drop it, and make your newbie mistakes, then sell it the next season if you're tired of it .. . You'll get most of your money back on it. Then when you move up to a more powerful bike, you'll not have to worry so much about destroying it, and you'll be a better rider for having learned on the smaller bike.
