how many blown engines?!?!?!?! 06 07
I am hearing of all these engine failures in the 06 07 r6, which has me a little worried. But in reality when you thing of all the bike's on the forums, i guess relatively few have really had any problems. I put this poll together just to get a more accurate idea of what percentage of bike's were having problems. Only answer the poll if you have an 06 or 07. Stock engine means internally stock, Power Commanders, exhausts, etc... don't count.
Also, only check the box of you have real engine damage: rod, bearing, crank, piston, valve, etc..... damage. Thanks
This is my first poll, so if i did something incorrectly please let me know.

I have many friends with O6/07's and I haven't heard of anyone having any problems. One female rider had a weird vibration in her front end, which turned out to be a recalled pilot power which was coming apart. My 07 seems to run great so far!

There is always going to be something that happens. With every bike I have owned, after searching for a while, you will find a handfull of people that have just had bad luck or blown a motor. I saw a brand new gixxer motor blow the very first trackday I did a few years ago...shit just happens to some of us. And I have not heard of anybody having issues except on here. I don't race but do trackdays and frequent deals gap so I am consistantly at redline all day so I just counted that as race and street.
I won't worry about anything until it happens to me. Just like my 2000 with everybody talking about the second gear issue, I had 35K miles on mine street and track and never had a single issue. Notcrashed had 54K on his and nothing.

well the guy i ride/race with has an 06' and has blown 2 main bearings at the track, the second caused a nasty crash. But like anything you are always going to hear shit happening. For the little bit of crazy stuff like this, you hear 10x's the amount of praise including myself about what an amazing bike the R6 is. and the good news is my buddy that recked on the track, YAMAHA is replacing his bike with a brank new one!

I try not to worry about stuff until it happens, sometimes its hard though when you hear of engines blowing. I really love this bike and would hate to get rid of it. However, if I do- 675 will be my next race bike!

of the 3 guys that race 06/07 R6's from stlouis... 2 have gone to shit.
Mine spun a bearing, needs:
crank
rod
bearings
oil pump
mine is out of warranty and still in pieces. (tapped on funds to rebuild and still race this year, beefing it up while i'm in there) It wont do me any good but I'm gonna throw the parts at yamaha and see what they say. 1400 race miles on a bone stock motor.
My buddy J sent his motor to be built after 54 soft street miles... 54 miles of break in on the street. Builder gets into the motor calls him up "dude, you got a spun bearing" Yamaha warrantied the motor.
Hey 2fast, I'm thinking about having some crank work done (lighten balance) and running just SB/GP, hoping altering the stock crank may eliminate the problem. I havent followed too much of what you had done... thoughts?

I have 3500 street (mostly canyon) miles with no failures (knocks on wood!)...yet. Looks like I need to make a trip to the dealer and extend my warrenty. One time however, when it was cold outside I had the oil light flash at me then go out. I shut the motor down imediatly and coast/pushed it home (only a couple of blocks). I checked the oil level and it was perfecty in the middle of the crosshatching with the stick screwed out. Thats the only thing close to an issue I've had with the bike.
