Belgium Bank accounts
Hey guys, I was hoping someone can help me out as I’ve noticed that there’s at least a few members here from Belgium.
I’ll be moving to Brussels in April to finish my Masters degree. Although I’ve been to Brussels once before, there’s a number of things I need to square away before making the move. One of the main issues is that I don’t know which Banks are available (and plentiful) in Belgium (and Europe in general). I need a bank where I can have paychecks deposited (I’ll be working part time) and will have free access to ATM’s and a debit card. It would also be ideal if there was an American bank available so that I can make the switch here and have the same accounts here and over there.
I’m also a little worried about health care. I’ll most likely be dropped from my current coverage (which is provided through work) and am not sure if I’ll be able to get new health care through school. If not, would I be eligible for the Belgian (or European) health coverage as a student? I can get EU (Slovak) citizenship if need be. What’s the basics of the system?
Thanks in advance for any input. And I look forward to living in the land of 1,000 beers for a little while.

Citibank is an American bank, isn't it?
I know Citibank is available in Belgium.

I don't think it should be a problem to access your accounts from here. You'll have to request an atm card at a bank here, to be able to work the machines, I'm pretty sure.
Can't help you with your healthcare question. For us natives it is controlled by the government. We have one of the best healthcare plans in the world, though.
But as a foreigner you might have to get hc from a private company. I'm just guessing here though.
Enjoy the beers! ;)
