Default Almost accident question

Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I am in the process of buying a 06 Raven R6. I have a question for you guys. I am 31 yrs old and have been riding dirt bikes and race quads since the age of 8. But I don't have to much seat time on a street bike, I'd say less then 200 miles. Heres my question, a few year back I was taking a guys brand new GSXR 750 for a spin. As I am coming back into the nieghborhood there was an 1/8 mile stretch of rode so I clutched the bike and started what I thought was a pretty decent wheelie. Well here is were the problem started. As soon as the front wheel touched the ground the bike went into a vicious wobble (side to side). I thought for sure it was going to buck me off. Somehow I regained control of it or it regained control of its self. When I gave the bike back to the guy I didn't mention that it happened, but I am sure he saw me shaking. (I was scared shitless). Now that I am going to get a bike, I can't quit thinking about it and wondering why it happened.

Does anyone have a reason why this would happen from a seamingly routine wheelie?

You need a damper or stabilizer..."should" not do that if you have one

The reason is obvious. When you came down, the front wheel was not aligned with the direction the bike wanted go in because:
1. It was not completely straight when it touched the ground
2. It was straight, but you had a lean going on when it touched the ground.

For what its worth, if you are already doing wheelies with less than 200 miles on a streetbike then you don't need a steering damper... you need good medical coverage and life insurance.

I will put money on how long you go before you wreck a bike.

You may have hit a bump in the road when you were coming down thus causing the head shake.

A damper will prevent this.

the wobbles are whats called a tank slapper. get a damper. got one on my bad boy...great for learning wheelies when ur wheel or bike is off balance a little and ur planting it back down
