Unhappy Dropped my bike ! Oh the Humanity!

Until today, I was one of the elite.... I was one of the condescending prima-donnas to have never ever dropped a motorcycle (and that liked to point that out whenever the opportunity presented itself).

Well, today I was pulling forward in traffic at a stop light (it was already red) when for no apparent reason my rear tire completely gave out.... No warning, and absolutely *zero* traction. The bike angled forward, but there was no way to hold it up because there was no friction/traction on the rear tire....

so the bike lurches and angles in the opposite direction (almost like a mini-highside) and hits the ground about 3 ft in front of me. It stalls out, and I immediately look to see what it was that I slipped on.

No oil.... no sand.... didn't see anything out of the ordinary (which confused the hell out of me) until I kick at what *looks* exactly like a patch of tar (the type they use to repair cracks and potholes). Turns out it was loose piece of cardboard/asphalt/whatever. (It was so perfectly flat that I couldn't get my fingers under it to pick it up, so I had to slide it with my foot to the curb). I wouldn't have been able to see it even if I had been looking for it because it looked exactly like a normal patch of road.

As for the bike... the frame slider (woodcraft) and clutch slider did most of their jobs.... but I did rash the bar-end, snap the front brake lever, and broke the right rider peg (which was already bent courtesy of the bike's previous owner).

I was in gloves, mesh jacket, and (unpadded) Icon anthem pants.... none of which really helped since mit was my right shin that my bike hit as it angled over. I did pick up some of that icon shin/knee armor, though... which I will use under the pants from now on.

Moral of the story: No amount of caution will guarantee incident-free riding? (bike was only going about 5 mph when it dropped!)

So....... does anyone know where I can get a new right-side rider peg?
