yep...after 4 years of riding...I finally ate it. BIG TIME.
Last sunday...last day of Bike Week here in Daytona. I left Barnes & Noble at noon to go home and get ready for work. I turned left onto a side road and a Truck with a Bike trailer turned in front of me out of the gas station so I slowed for him. As he passed I got back on the throttle and coming the opposite direction a jackass in a Rav 4 turned left into the gas station about 10 feet in front of me. I was at about 30-35 just got out of 1st gear. I tried not to hit him and ended up locking up the front brake...bike cart-wheeled twice in the air...I went face first sliding/rolling into the ground.
I've always preached on how I ALWAYS wear all my gear. Well this was literally the first time I elected not to where my jacket. All my clothes were ripped to shreds and the left side of my helmet is completely demolished. Road rash all over my left side. Luckily thats all I had. It should have been worse...but I guess the big guy likes me. I was wearing a hoodie which really helped but a jacket would have been best.
The helmet really did save my life.
For those of you who choose to go riding in a t-shirt...or none at all...I hope you're ready for road rash. The best way to describe it is to pour gasoline on your body and light a match. Yeah...you'll wish you died.
that sucks dude, i almost bit it pulling out of the Barnes n Noble there, a pickup changed 4 lanes to the right and drove me into the grass right there. How many deaths did we have this year?
the bikes totalled. The frame is broken in 4 spots. Its a shame too cause really only the front half is gone. Everything else is pretty much untouched. Insurance is definitely involved.
Lets see...it was 7 fatalities during bike week this year. I can honestly say I won't be riding anywhere during these events anymore...just WAYYYY too many careless people driving around.
