Red face lol, whoops!

So I brought the bike home today. It's been out at my Dad's since last Wednesday. As I was almost home, I was rounding a turn, very sharp turn, only doing about 15 mph or so. Downshifted from 2nd to 1st mid turn, let the clutch out a bit too fast. Back tire grabbed and skipped and hopped out to the side on me about 3 times. That was a cool feeling...

Ok, seriously. I've tried this, and I STILL don't quite get it. I think I know how to kinda understand it. Like when I downshift, the RPM's rise to a sertain RPM. I'm supposed to rev to that RPM while the clutch is disengaged and then let go? Everytime I rev it up, by the time I pull in the lever and let go the RPM's have already fallen. I really don't want to rev it up and then drop the clutch, I see me flipping the thing if that happens.

And no J, just a noob that bought a 600 ss as his first bike and doesn't have shit for experience.

you kind of catch it as its dropping, just takes practice, but you should get the slipper clutch

For as much praise as I've heard a slipper can save yo ass I think I'll look into putting one of these on the bike. Damn $1,000???

I was kidding, I really dont htink you need it Valentino, just be more careful and practice blipping. after a while you'll start to get a feel for the bike, the engine speed, wheel speed in each gear etc...just take it easy and spend you money on gear

For those that are reading... never RELY on a slipper clutch, they fail occassionally.

Fox, just let the clutch out slow... you can downshift in to first at 60mph so long as you let the clutch out slow enough. Besides, you're not supposed to downshift mid-turn anyway.... at any speed.

I'm covered on the gear side. Finally got a good set of gloves. World of a difference. Especially now with these 38 degree temps / 10 mph winds we've been having this past week. I did break my noob record. Took her up to 67 in a 45 on a quater mile straight. Completley tucked. Felt pretty good. Kinda scary but in reality it didn't feel like I was going that fast. And I'm able to get there now in around 2 or 3 seconds. I'm getting there. Having problems with target fixation. Drove up into someone's yard last week. I was nervous about a curb for some reason. It was like I was paralyzed. I was trying to turn, but I just couldn't. I didn't fall. Just came to a stop up and into their grass. LOL. I've been practicing on some sweeping S turns too. At about 45 mphs. It feels really good once I'm in the lean but sometimes I forget how to get into the lean, and the lean comes late. I try to remember to shoulder her in more than want to steer. I'm getting there. Hopefully I'll improve before I hurt myself.
