Unhappy Buddies in the hospital...

My buddy (jdtobe) and I were leaving school yesterday and while we were coming around a turn, a car pulled out to make a left and he hit the rear of the car spinning it almost 180 degrees. He and the bike (R1) flew over the car and both landed pretty hard. He was unconscious at the scene and when they got him to the ICU, they put him in a medically induced coma.

So far, we know he has a broken leg, broken arm, broken fingers, broken thumb, broken sternum, broke rib bone. Lacerated liver and pancreas as well as a swelling of the brain and some torn brain tissue. Doctors say he'll be in the hospital for about 2 weeks and will need rehab afterwards.

To answer most questions:
We were not speeding.
We're in Dallas, so no winding 2-lane roads, it was a major street.
He had his Arai helmet, leather jacket, and leather gloves on.
Sorry, no pics right now.

I'll keep ya'll updated.

**Update** 11.21.07
He was transferred to the SICU C where they've been monitoring him and what not. His brain pressure finally went down to a normal level so they removed all the equipment used for that. Last Sunday they took him out of the medically induced coma, but he's still so heavily medicated it's like he's still in one, lol. They fixed his thumb and should have worked on his shoulder yesterday. He actually broke his right shoulder in three places (the ball came off, the top, and one other). He's breathing on his own though and they took out his spline to stop the internal bleeding. There's still no word of when he will completely regain consciousness, but his mom was tickling his feet and he was reacting in a way to make her stop, haha.

Anyway, more to come. I haven't heard anything about the police report and what not yet, but that should be available soon.

Oh, and the girl who caused the accident came by the hospital to see him.

Hope your friends heals up and gets better. Brain swelling/trauma is such a dicey thing.

By "pankerist" I think you mean pancreas?

Hope your friend makes a full recovery man! Glad to hear he was wearing gear. Modern medicine can perform miracles nowadays. Be optimistic!

fixed thanks!

They have said that he has a cracked pelvis too, level 1 fracture. The swelling in his brain has gone down so they're removing the eqiupiment used to drain it out. They've also opened up visitation now so if you're in the Dallas area and want to head to Parkland Hospital, let me know.

I am sorry to hear it. I am glad to hear that he was wearing gear, it could have been much worse. He is in my prayers.

Man that is terrible. I'll pray for the best and as bad as it sounds it could have been worse. Keep us updated.
