Victim Identified In Athens Fatal Motorcycle Crash
(CBS) LOS ANGELES Authorities identified a 21-year-old man who was killed when his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle in the unincorporated Athens area of Los Angeles County.
Alec Nathaniel Elder of Long Beach was pronounced dead at the scene, said Lt. John Kades of the coroner’s office.
The accident occurred at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, near 130th and San Pedro streets, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Elder, who was riding a 2007 Kawasaki, was traveling southbound on San Pedro Street when a 2006 Saturn VUE SUV that had been parked along the right curb made a left-hand U-turn directly in front of the motorcycle, according to a CHP report.
Elder was unable to avoid the SUV and collided into the driver’s side if the Saturn. It was unclear at what speed Elder was traveling at the time of the crash, according to the report.
Los Angeles County paramedics pronounced Elder dead at the scene, the report said.
