Default tire or do I suck?

I had my endorsement test today for the second time (stupid cones). Anyways when I did the quick stop the front tire slid and I layed the bike down (failed again). I was doing 13-14mph.

Front tire is a brand new Dunlop bought it yesterday and has about 40-50 easy miles on it at the most. I have never locked the front up and was doing some quick stops last night no problem but that was on concrete and on a warm tire today I dropped it on asphalt and the tire was cold.

So my question is did the new tire play a role in the slide or do I just suck and grabbed way to much brake.

It was probably all of the above. Not enough miles on the tire yet, the fact that it was cold (the tire I mean) and the fact that you grabbed too much brake all played a part. Hopefully you're not hurt, even a slow get-off can be painful if you land badly.

*edit* it could also have been cold brakes. Cold brakes tend to be much more grabby than warm brakes, simply becuz the brakes are designed to work when hot. A lotta times, cold brakes (for both bikes and cars) will go *nothing nothing nothing GRAB* as you squeeze the brakes harder and harder and suddenly you're in way too deep.

Are you on the 6? Can you rent one of their bikes? Is that an option? Around here they charge like 30-50 bucks or something to use their 125/250 cruisers to take the test w/. It'd keep you from binning your bike during slow operation.

Anywho, just keep practicing it.

Yeah I was on my 6. You can't rent a bike that I know of.

Sad part is after I screwed up the cones on the first test I looked up some advice online and did them perfect the very next time and every time after that.

I am pissed not just because that was the first time I dropped the bike but I should have known not to try and push it and just taken some points for taking longer to stop. I also know that I grabbed to much brake for the conditions.

I am fine just a small scrap on my leg. The bike has a very small scratch, the sliders worked kinda.

Progressive braking is very important, especially with cold tires. If you jam on the front brake then you will lock up the front before the weight transfer.
