Hi all. My wife and I are taking our honeymoon to Australia in Sept. The bulk of the plan has us arriving in Cairns on the 12th to scuba dive on the Reef Encounter live-aboard (
www.reeftrip.com) for 3 days. then we will be in Sydney on the 22nd and leaving to come home on the 24th.
That means we have from the night of the 15th to the 22nd to travel from Cairns to Sydney. The plan is to do it using the "East Coast Discovery" rail pass which gives us unlimited stops between Cairns and Sydney.
so the question is: where might you guys recommend we stop along the way.
We are more into outdoors "small" stuff than we are big tourist places. A beach that is quiet might be nice, maybe a place to stay while we take a day trip a little bit inland, WINE COUNTRY, stuff like that.
I'm just looking for advice from the folks who live there beyond what we might find in the travel books.
Oh yeah and if there is a good race (motorcycle or rally) along the way that might be fun
