Couple Q's for you Australian People
How difficult is it to get Australia citizenship?
What are the nicer areas to live in and how much do homes cost?
How hard is it to acquire a motorcycle endorsement?
How much do say R6's cost equivalent to USD? Also are cars more expensive?
What type of a job market is there for engineers?
I'm asking all of this because I'm hoping to move to Australia in a couple years once I'm done with college, majoring in Mechanical Engineering most likely, along with a year or two of living with my parents to acquire some money for the necessities once I'd move there. I have some family in the ~Sydney area however its been years since I've talked to them. However I'm also 17 and looking further into the future, I just want to get an idea of how difficult it'd be to start a life there. Also any other comments are more then likely welcome, my parents are actually also planning onpossibly moving to NZ. In general I guess I like it there alot more then I do here.

hey mate,
dont know about the difficulties of becomin a citizen
areas for living all comes down to which state you move too, be prepared for the prices of houses, they are EXPENSIVE
not sure about licensing, if you have to go thru the whole learners (3months), Provisional (min 12 months). On learners and provisional you can only ride a maximum of 250cc.
As for the the r6, i picked mine up last year, brand new 2004 r6 for $14,500 on road.

I was thinking about near Melbourne or Sydney.
As far as jobs go is there a market for Engineers or IT's?

From the working down under thread...
im comming from canada.. considering syd, mel, new zealand?!
i have simple questions like:
- what kind of power supply? volt/wattage? and connectors?
- what is the approx. cost of living?
- what kind of insurance do you pay for your cars, and bikes?
- how much is gas?
- what is rental housing cost? apparments? ~800sq/ft?
- where does bayliss hang out?
- what job markets are doing well? or is there a demand for? (i've worked as a mechanic, to computer graphics.., and im considering police officer)
- is it hard getting a visa?
- what is it like climate wise.. highs, lows. summers/winters? or rainy season, dry seaon type?

I live about 40 mins from melbourne 30 mins from coast, nice quiet area, house value $350 - 370,00 which is above average for my area but if want to live in melbourne you will pay that for a dump. I left some quick answers to your queries, in AU$.
Try http://ninemsn.realestate.com.au/cgi...p&t=res&cu=MSN for house values accross australia.
Hope this helps.

car $600 bike $460 ins.
petrol ranges between 95 - 102 cents/litre.
rent $200 - $400 depending on standard.
bayliss hangs out at my house now and then
I had relatives came ouy from U.K both found a job within 3 months.
visa was hard to get according to the relo's.

hey thanks for the info!! this actually helps me alot. Ultimately I need to come down for about a mth.. and check things out. I understand things are very similar to canada.. im pretty excited at the prospect of moving to a new place.
just a few more questions:
-What is the minimum wage?
-What are the taxes like? (cant' be worse than 15%)
-What does airfare cost? (Ie. to fly to Newzeland, and neighbouring countries)
-Is it nicer to live in New Zealand as opposed to Aus?
-Whats lowest the tempreature reaches? (on average)
these next questions may seem really stupid but anyways:
-How are minorities viewed in general? (i assume its not very multicultural in aus)
-What are people like? (people say canadians are very friendly and outgoing)
-Can you park your vehicles outside without fear of Theft, Vandalism etc?
-Do people sleep with their doors and windows open at night?

Don't really know what minimum wage is but even someone working production line at say Fords would be earning say at least $35k for a 38 hr day shift.
TAXES. ( Can't be worse than 15% he) I pay 36% but having said that I am VERY lucky I have a high paying job. Most of my mates earn $50 - 70k prob pay at least 28% tax.
Domestic flights from $100 - $400 depends on when and with who, NZ there was a special not long ago one way $300.
Don't Know if nicer in NZ but I know more emigrate here than we go there
Temp on average Winter o/nite 10 deg cel, prob 15 deg day
temp summer o/nite 15 deg, day 30 I live in victoria, prob coldest state
Aus multicultural, very friendly, had a car stolen once in 16yrs I would'nt sleep with doors/windows open unless you have security screens. But I have young kids
Hope this helps, all I can say is I love it here and would'nt live anywhere else. I ride all year round in mostly great weather

lol when I was referring to taxes, we pay 15% sales tax on everything we buy.
but those income tax numbers are less than here in toronto. I believe im getting taxed closer to 40% and in only make 40G.
but i really appreciate all your answers. if i can dig up more. i'll drop them in here. thanks again!
