Hi Y'all,

I'm, considering about moving to Oz in something about two years. Flaming Ozy already told me, that Sydney is a great place for sportbike riders to be, so I guess I gotta go.
Right now I'm PhD Student in Germany in the field of Corporate Finance. I just wanted to ask you guys how well German degrees are accepted by Australian employers. If I really should go to Oz, I would move with my wife, 2 kids and little money. So it would be a great help if you guys could tell me, whether it makes sence to apply in Oz with a German degree.

Do be honest, Sydney is going through some tough changes, where houses are like 400-500K for an average one! Sydney is a beautiful place, been living here for almost 20 years now.. My suggestion is to come down for a holiday and search for prospects before jumping for such a big move like that with your family.. you want the transition to be smooth.. espically with looking for work. hope it helps.

Hi Kenshin,

you're definately right that I should go visit Sydney first before I make any decision. I'm planning to visit Sydney next Spring/Summer (in European terms). Supposably I'll have to sell my R6 to finance the trip, but I guess that the travel will be worth the sale. Nearly everybody I know who saw Sydney yet told me, that it is the most beautiful city they've ever been.

Sydney ain't no buitifull city. I've had countless friends and family live in sydney and they all told me the same thing when they moved out don't move there.

If you want a butifull city to live in down here move to the Goldcoast or Brisbane now thats butifull.

Parts of Sydney ARE beautiful... especially around near the harbour. I agree some parts leave a little to be desired... but the Gold Coast being better?? Come on now!!!

Workwise - corporate finance jobs will really only be available in Sydney or Melbourne.

So what part of Australia would be a good place to move to for a decent job, nice weather and a reasonable cost of living?

^^^ +1 to that.. im considering the move too.. but i have no idea whats instore..i have only heard good things about Australia...

im comming from canada..

i have simple questions like:
- do you use the same power supply? volt/wattage? and connectors?
- what is the approx. cost of living?
- what kind of insurance do you pay for your cars, and bikes?
- how much is gas?
- what is rental housing cost? apparments? ~800sq/ft?
- where does tory bayliss hang out?
- what job markets are doing well? or is there a demand for? (i've worked as a mechanic, to computer graphics.., and im considering police officer)
- is it hard getting a visa?
- what is it like climate wise.. highs, lows. summers/winters? or rainy season, dry seaon type?

I really dont know much about moving anywhere. as i have lived in canada my whole life.. but any help is appreciated

I live in victoria, in the the area we call the surf coast. It's about 30 mins away from THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD. One of the best to ride. Cops are a pain in the arse( those of you who live in Aus would know about the Vic coppers) but in 17 years of riding (mostly above the speed limit) i've one fine. Houses are relatively cheap and jobs are around if your keen. Once your familiar with the area you know where the cops are and when they are around. You can (and I do) ride all year round.

My girlfiend and I are also conisdering moving to Australia next year upon completion of school.

Our biggest concern is cost of houses. Here in Ontario, Canada, everything is pretty comparable to Australia living except the cost of housing. Some parts seem ridiculously overpriced. For example, a one level home with a pool in the backyard was going for oer 400,000. I found it quite absurd.

I've been trying to find houses in the 200,000 that would be comparable to here, but I have found nothing.

Is living outside of major cities such as Melbourne, and Sydney be a better idea for more 'economical' housing?

Thanks for any helP!
