Default 03 R6 tyre question

I have standard D208's from factory fitted at present and they are both well worn. I am about to do my first track day in a few weeks at Eastern Creek and I want to replace them both b4 I go. Any recommendations guys, Also I have heard the 60 section front fitted standard really holds the bike back in handling. Do you recommend moving up to the 70 section for the front and if so what do I need to modify to accomodate the larger tyre. I have never had a problem with the back end of the bike, but the front seems a bit nervous at times. Could just be me, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the tyre going to be for only track or street and track??

if it's for street and track i've heard that the new d210's are meant to be sweet.

Next time u want some info your better off posting in the main forum section due to nobody replying on this section of the board.

Well I agree with descendingfear (I.E NOT MANY POSTS HERE):

1) 70 section is an absolute must Yamaha should be sued for providing a 60 section tire on the stock r6 bike (While its my opinion I'm serious)
2) OEM 208s are worst tire I've ever riden on.
3) Get a 70 tyre no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want a street track tire go for Pirelli diablo or the Michelin Pilots........ I have not tried the the new d210's however the Pirellis and Michelins are good. 1 up is the Pirelli diablo corsa (which I ride) after that its the diablo supercorsa (track only IMO).

So the Pirelli diablo corsa has a carcus shape I like and is o.k in the wet. It will slide in the wet but only when lent over. The tread pattern illistrates this. i.e lots of tread on top and little on the sides. Have a look at a supercorsa and you'll see why I called it track only.

The Pirellis (70) will fit without modifying the front guard however I'm not sure about other brands though my bet would be that they do. Lastly there is lots of info on this in the old board so try a search too.

Lastly if you choose a 70 over a 60 front you will need to lower your forks. From the board it seems between 6 - 10 mm is the best range. Most here seemed to like the 10mm I went for 7.5 mm and used the pre-load to fine tune.

Thanks guys for replying. That info helped a lot. The more people I speak to and the more I read other posts on here I am really asking myself the question as to why I stuck with that 60-section front for so long. Anyway can't wait to change it to see the differance. Will let you know.

I just replaced my Pirelli rear tyre with a Michelin Pilot Sport and its sweet. So much more traction, even in the wet.. seems to be wearing pretty well too. I'm doing a track day at eastern creek too (10/07/04) and looking forward to putting it through its paces.
