Default Advice Needed..Please Help

Guy's
When i eventually migrate to your sunny climate, which i'm hoping to get the green light for in the next few months

How do i stand with getting road legal on a bike over there a.s.a.p ?

How do i get an Australian license, will i just produce my UK one and get issued a new one ? or will i have to do a test of any sort ?

Will my full NCB ( 6 years No Claims Bonus ) be of any use for me when insuring a bike ????????? will it carry over ???

I know there is a bit of a thread about how much you all pay for insurance .......

BUT what do you think i will pay for a 2002 R6 for example, age 40 ( but look and feel about 30 really ) ?

Thanx in advance for any replies,
as i really have'nt got a clue to the answer of any of these questions, and it would be great to have a bit of an idea.

I'll try to answer your questions though it may vary slightly state to state:

If you hold a current full U.K motorcycle license then you should be able to ride from day 1.
The following is for Victoria:
If you have permanent residency status in Aus then I think you have to apply for a Victorian license after 3 months. In Victoria I do not think you need to do a driving/ riding test but you will need to do a written test for road rules.
Your no claim bonus is of value (this may depend on the insurance company). Best to have a letter/ statement of history from your insurance company before you leave. As far as rating 1 for a 40 yr old, I think around $900 but this is a guess. I'm 29 and it's $1300-$1600 depending on the policy. It drops at 30 and probably again at 40.

Check out vicroads for all licensing stuff

sleej ........Cheers for the info :thumbsup

The Insurance seems a bit on the steep side :eek compared to UK prices... Is this price for fully Comp ??????? or Third party Fire and Theft ???
Even tho we get high theft penalties here, i only pay £180 TPF&Theft for the year.

I'm heading to Queensland when i get the green light, got family there ( not into Bikes tho !!!! ) so they wouldn't have a clue on Bke Insurance..

Anybody got further Insurance or Licence details for Queensland area ( Brisbane Region ) ?????????????

Cheers

Craig

Default Every (K) over is a Thriller.

dont u qualify for an international license? if not then as soon as you jump off the plane, take your stuff home, dump it, then get a cab or one of ya relies to drive you to a Queensland Transport office...the one in Rosalie is the best cause there are no cues...(the rely's will know where it is) take your passport and your pomy license and they ( the transport people) will tell u what to do...If your desparate call me on my mobile and I'll come and pick u up and take u there myself, make sure u have a helmet cause i only have 1. once u get a bike and license hook me up and we'll go for a ride up to Nebo/Glorious.

Nice one :thumbsup

I'm sure i can get an International License at this end ( through the A.A ... Automobile Association ).

I did this some years ago when i worked in Italy for 4 months, this allows you to drive whilst there, without hassle if you get stopped by police, as it has more detail in it, than the standard UK one... I would imagine it stretches to any vehicle ... even a Bike .

I'll check this out, it might save me having to do anything immediately and give me chance to sort stuff out...

I guess the only thing it might hinder, could be the insurance side of things .... They might insist on a full Ozzy licence to qualify for insurance ...... will have to find out !!!!!!!!

Thanx for the replies guy's

Much appreciated... Any other info is more than welcome ;)

I don't think you need an international license your UK license will be fine. It only lasts so long though (like 3 months) and then I think you need an Aus license. As I'm from Victoria and your going to Queensland best check out this:

www.transport.qld.gov.au/...mation.pdf

The insurance was full comprehensive insurance. No idea how much fire and theft is. I'm not really the best person to be asking for Queensland related stuff as insurance and licensing are a little different from state to state.
