Default Unleaded Petrol Labels - EPA Notice

The EPA has issued the following statement

Unleaded Petrol Only Labels on Motorycles

Before 1 September 2002, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) required an "Unleaded Petrol Only" label to be displayed on motorycles and other vehicles designed to use unleaded petrol. This label was also part of Australian Design Rule 41.

This requirement was detailed in the Clean Air (Motor Vehicle & Motor Vehicle Fuels) Regulation 1997 which was repealed on 1 September 2002.

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has agreed that six Defective Vehicle Notices relating to labels on motorcycles were inappropriately issued after March 2001. The EPA has recently issued an apology to the motor cycle owners who received these Notices.

There is now no requirement for any unleaded petrol labelling for these vehicles.

For further information, please contact the EPA's Pollution Line on 02 9995 5555 or 131 555.
