I suppose it's fitting that after all the AMA screw-ups they finish it all up with the ultimate screw-up: Selling ALL AMA Roadracing rights to Daytona Motorsports Group. The creators of lowest common denominator of racing.
Already they're talking about killing Superbike and making "Superbike" a modified 600cc class, and killing Supersport - currently the best racing the AMA has. Spec fuel and spec tires are also in the works...
Why they ever sold the sanctioning rights to DMG is beyond me. Every other successfull series has a sanctioning body and a promotor. Two seperate entities. Most likely DMG wasn't interested if they didn't have sanctioning rights as well.
By the sounds of it Suzuki are just Livid. They have a lot of money into the GSX-R1000 program, and they sell a billion of them in the US as a result. Meanwhile the GSX-R600 has had mediocre US racing success at best.
I know some ppl on this Forum actually enjoy the low-brow monstrosity that is NASCAR but for myself having AMA Roadracing in the hands of the enemy is a tough pill to swallow, especially when a few weeks into ownership they're already talking about reinventing the wheel as a square. Nothing has been settled but IMO this is just one step closer to NASBIKE.
