New Mechanic Found Old Mechanic's Big Mistake!
SO...I took my bike to a new shop on an ex-mechanic friend's recommendation for carb work.
The new mechanic just called to tell me that he found an uncut key in my fourth carb intake! He says it has caused scarring of the intake and that aluminum debris might be all through my engine at this point. Mechanic says it could have seriously damage my bike's engine & might drastically shorten the engine's lifetime.
Needless to say I am bummed.
I had my carbs synced about a year ago at a different shop and 3 months before that I had personally cleaned my carbs in some routine maintanence. There were no uncut keys in there when I popped my carbs open & I know for a fact I did not drop an uncut key in there while I was working on them. I am not a locksmith, nor an authorized dealer that cuts keys.
I am going to go to the old shop that did the previous carb work (where, ironically, I had my spare keys made) and tell them what happened. I'm sure they will claim it couldn't happen there, but I know it did. Of course it was so long ago & I have no way to actually prove it was their mistake, which is so frustrating, but there is no other explaination.
I guess the only thing I can do is tell everyone I know what happened. With that being said, if you live in the SF Bay Area, think twice before going to Golden Gate Cycles for service...
